Carlson, 9th editionAt bookstore, Greeks and SneaksCourse DescriptionCourse Philosophy•Psychology is a Science. I consider this a Science course, and you should too.•I assume you do the reading before lecture. Lecture is a supplement to the book. Therefore, I build on what’s in the reading. If you haven’t read, you won’t get as much out of lecture.•I don’t cover all the book in lecture, and some of my lectures aren’t in the book. If it’s in the book or in lecture, you need to know it.Course SlidesPowerPoint slides will be posted before a lecture. Not everything I say is included on the slides, therefore it’s important to take notes during lecture.Your grade will be calculated as follows:1. Online Quizzes 25%2. In-Class Tests (best 3 out of 4) 45%3. Cumulative Final Exam 30%Grading:Your grade will be calculated as follows:1. Online Quizzes 25%2. In-Class Tests (best 3 out of 4) 45%3. Cumulative Final Exam 30%Grading:- There will be one online quiz for each assigned chapter. - The reading and the quiz should be completed before class on the indicated date. - Quizzes will disappear from the Assignments section of UBLearns at 7:00 PM the evening they are due. - Make sure you submit your answers!- Best 12 of 14Quiz due datesYour grade will be calculated as follows:1. Online Quizzes 25%2. In-Class Tests (best 3 out of 4) 45%3. Cumulative Final Exam 30%Grading:Tests: There will be four in-class tests given during the semester, each worth 15% of your final grade. The lowest score of these four tests will be dropped when calculating your final grade. Missed tests will receive a score of zero points. Except for very rare and unusual circumstances, there will be no make-up tests. Thus, you should plan to take each of the four tests, regardless of your performance. Each test will likely be a combination of multiple choice, matching, true/false, and short answer. The amount of each type of question may vary between the tests. As suggested earlier, the tests will cover material presented in the required reading as well as material presented in lecture. This also includes material presented in one or the other, but not both (i.e., if it was presented in class, but isn’t in the book, it’s still fair game). Come on time!Cumulative Final Exam: Thirty percent of your final grade for the course will be determined by your performance on a cumulative final exam. The final exam will be on May 15th at 3:30 pm. The format of the final exam will be similar to that of the in-class tests.93-100 = A90-92 = A-87-89 = B+83-86 = B80-82 = B-77-79 = C+73-76 = C70-74 = C-66-69 = D+60-67 = Dless than 60 = FI will not officially keep track of attendance. Your grade, however, is not likely to be high if you do not attend class regularly. As stated earlier, there will certainly be information provided in the lectures that will not be found elsewhere. If you want a good grade for the course, come to class.Attendance:In the event that a class needs to be cancelled because of something such as a snowstorm or other emergency, material intended for the cancelled period(s) will be presented during the next possible meeting of the class. If an exam is scheduled on the day of a cancelled class, the exam will be given when class resumes. In the event that a sign is posted indicating that class is cancelled, or if you arrive to class and I am not there, you are required to wait 20 minutes after the normal start time of the class to insure the validity of the sign.Class cancellation policy:Class Schedule (subject to change)•Accessibility: Any student needing help such as note-takers, readers, or extended time on examinations should contact the instructor and the Office of Accessibility Resources Services (25 Capen Hall; 645-2608) during the first two weeks of class.
