Location and Hours Office Phone E mail Course Philosophy ACC200 is a demanding course probably more so than most courses you have taken so far You learn best when you come to class prepared so we expect you to read and prepare assigned material before the class date listed in the course syllabus In your preparation check Blackboard every day for assignments and other communications from your instructor or graduate teaching assistant GTA If you have difficulty mastering the material seek help immediately by contacting your instructor or GTA Very few students are successful in ACC200 using a cram for the exam approach ACC200 material builds on itself each week Do not fall behind in this course Contacting your Instructor or GTA ACC200 instructors teach more than one section which means they teach hundreds of students each semester We are happy and willing to help students but we should not have to figure out who you are or which section you are in So when you email your instructor or GTA do the following 1 Write your course and section number on the Subject line 2 Sign your name to the email If you voicemail your instructor or GTA say your name course number section number and your callback number clearly Primary Learning Objectives In ACC200 students will 1 2 3 4 5 Learn about business types forms and functions Learn the roles of both financial accounting and managerial accounting in business Learn fundamental financial accounting principles Learn the effects of business transactions on accounts Learn how businesses communicate the results of operations to external business stakeholders via financial statements 6 To learn how business managers use accounting data to make decisions As you learn these subjects the course will give you practice that will enhance online homework To register for CNOW use the course key found in the announcements on your section s Blackboard site Do not register using any other course key Do not use anyone else s access code You may purchase the access code bundled with a physical textbook the access code alone or the access code online with an e book Course Prerequisite None Course Grades Exam 1 Exam 2 Exam 3 Online homeworks In class quizzes Total points possible 100 points 100 100 50 50 400 points Your final course letter grade will be based on the total points you earn not on percentages rounded or unrounded The lowest number of points for each letter grade are A AB B 367 358 343 327 BC C C 318 302 278 267 D D DF 263 230 226 225 or below All sections of ACC200 use the same grade scale Modifications to the grade scale are extremely rare and any such modifications will be determined at the end of the semester based on the course averages of all ACC200 sections combined We do not curve individual exams At the end of the semester we will not add points to any individual student s total course points unless a computational error has been made Friday August 28th is the last day to register add change credits or drop without a W Tuesday November 10th is the last day to drop with a W The grade of Incomplete I is assigned only in extremely unusual external circumstances that prevent a student from completing the final part of a semester s work Incompletes are not assigned in place of a grade a student has earned but does not want You must apply for an Incomplete Applications for incompletes must be approved by both your instructor and the course coordinator at least 5 class days prior to the regular final exam ACC200 Syll Fall 15 TR Pg 3 of 12 Blackboard Check Blackboard every day for announcements and other postings from your instructor or GTA You will be held responsible for any information posted on Blackboard Blackboard is an academic information site Students are not to use it for unauthorized mass emails to class members The University s Acceptable Use Policy states The university s information technology resources are provided for use in conducting authorized university business Using these resources for personal gain illegal or obscene activities is prohibited Use of the university s information technology resources to transmit abusive threatening or harassing material chain letters spam or communications prohibited by state or federal laws is prohibited under this policy We will report any unauthorized use of Blackboard to the Office of Student Judicial Affairs EXAMS You will take three exams as listed in the Class Schedule on pp 7 9 of this syllabus Each exam is worth 100 points 50 multiple choice questions worth two points each All instructors have input to all ACC200 exams No single instructor writes the exams Study exams will be posted on Blackboard The first two exams are evening exams as listed in the Class Schedule on pp 7 9 of this syllabus Arrange your schedule now to be in attendance at these exams We provide scan forms for the exams You must fill out your scan form as you work through the exam You may not wait until the end of the exam to fill out your scan form You may not use notes study guides sample questions books or scratch paper during exams You may not use electronic devices of any kind cellphone headphones electronic language translators etc during exams You will be required to leave all personal items such as electronic devices purses backpacks etc at the front of the exam room during the exam Do not bring to the exam items you cannot afford to lose students sometimes steal other students belongings You may not use programmable calculators during exams Some students are skilled at programming accounting formulas into calculators and thus essentially are able to bring notes into the exam Some students are not To make a level playing field for everyone we do not allow programmable calculators in the room during exams no exceptions All you need is an inexpensive four function calculator Purchase one of these now if you don t already have one Makeup exams
