HDFS 334 1st EditionFinal Exam Study Guide This is an incomplete list of possible topics that will be on the final exam. It is intended only tohelp you study SOME of the content that MAY be covered on the final.The final is a comprehensive exam that will include content that is about 50% exclusively fromthe last third of the course (since the last exam) and 50% that requires integration of information and themes from different times in the semester.Parenting Adolescents Describe characteristcs of dismissing parents, disapproving parents, laissez faire parents? How might this influence the transiton to parenthood? What is risk and what is protectve? How do the challenges that kids go through in understanding adopton pose challenges to parentng? How do the different developmental tasks of childhood and adolescence create different challenges for parentng of adopted children? In what ways are children in foster care at risk for emotonal and behavioral problems and at risk for social and relatonship problems? (Leve et al)Leve et al describe 8 programs with evidence that they are effectve for improving developmental outcomes for youth. Explain two programs and what the evidence is that they are effectve. (Leve et al) Describe why it is so important to have the right COMPARISON group when studying effects of being adopted on child development. What kinds of programs might be useful for enhancing skills of adoptve parents and outcomes of adoptve children. Is being in foster care a risk or protecton for child development? Describe why training in behavior management skills might be very important for foster parents.
