definition of the specific objectives also provides the best method for indicating the content and character of the course The objectives listed below represent the specific aims of this course as visualized by the instructor The degree to which these objectives are met will depend upon the competence of the instructor and the interest and ability of the student SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES 1 To prepare student to participate objectively in public decisions on conservation of soil and water 2 To impart some understanding of conservation principles problems and measures on U S farms for people in agriculture but not directly involved in conservation 3 To prepare for careers in conservation or in farming production agriculture 4 To develop an awareness of the basic physical soil and water conservation problems 5 To develop an awareness of the social and economic interactions with soil and water conservation problems and practices 6 To develop an understanding of the physical processes associated with soil and water conservation problems 7 To have each student acquire knowledge of specific practices to alleviate soil and water conservation problems to understand the principles upon which these practices are based and the problems which may arise with their use 8 To develop an understanding of the role of government at various levels in the solution of soil and water conservation problems OUTLINE AND READING ASSIGNMENTS I INTRODUCTION TO COURSE Troeh Chapter 1 II SOILS A PROPERTIES Olson Chapters 1 2 and Appendix 2 Kohnke and Franzmeier Chapters 1 2 7 and 8 B SOIL SURVEYS
