11/16/20141Feed Formulation and Feed Ingredient ReportFeed Formulation Assignment• Use the Windows Friendly Feed Formulation for Poultry and Swine program to formulate 2 diets.• The first diet should be a corn / soybean meal based diet that meets the requirements for swine (starter, grower or finisher) or broiler (starter, grower, finisher) diet.• The second diet should include two alternate ingredients. One should be an energy ingredient and the other should be an alternate protein ingredient. This second diet can still use some corn and soy, but it should have at least 10% of the two other ingredients.WUFFDA Tutorials • http://extension.uga.edu/publications/files/html/RB438/WUFFDA-English.htmlUSE the EXCEL Workbook Version(not the student version)X11/16/20142Feed Formulation• The program matches the nutrient content of ingredients to the requirement of animals.• It works best with poultry or swine diets.Using WUFFDA• Go to: Online Class page under “Assignments”• --Download the WUFFDA Excel file.• --You will need to activate the Solver function in Excel. To do this, click on “FILE” (upper left), then “Options”, then “Add-ins”. Click on “Solver Add-inn” then at bottom, “Manage Add-Ins”, Go.• The Solver Function is used to solve diet formulations. Once activated, it will appear on the upper right of your Excel Screen under the Data Tab. • Only use Solver when on the Formulate Page11/16/20143Using WUFFDA• --Energy values in WUFFDA are for poultry. If you are doing a swine ration you will need to change the values. Energy values for swine can be found in the Feedstuffs Ingredient Analysis Table• --The Ca:P ratio is set at 2:1 as a default. For swine diets, it is best if this is turned off. Do this by setting the Ca:P ratio minimum and maximums to -100 and 100 on the Nutrients page.• --Find the category of pig or broiler you want to formulate a diet for and put those requirements in the first 2 columns of the “Nutrients” page.11/16/20144Expected levels of Ingredients in Common DietsSource of NutrientsCommentsEnergy Ingredients:CornWheatThe energy ingredient is typically the most abundant. In typical swineand poultry diets, corn is usually 60-80% of the diet.Protein Ingredients:Soybean mealCanola MealThe protein ingredient is typically second most abundant. In swineand poultry diets it is 10-30% of the dietCalcium andPhosphorus:LimestoneDicalcium phosphateMonocalcium phosphateLimestone and Dical are typically about 0.5 to 1.5% in the diet – depends on requirements. The Calcium to available P ratio is usually around 2:1.Vitamin and Mineral PremixesTheseare typically at 0.25% each or less. For this exercise, put Vitamin premix at 0.25 and the mineral premix at 0.075. We are not going to worry about vitamins and minerals in this exercise and will just assume that this level meets the requirements.Fat Choicewhite grease, tallow, poultry fat, soybean oil.Typically fat is added as an energy source andto control dust. It is rarely greater than 5% of the diet and never more than 7-8 in a practical diet.Crystalline amino acids:Lysine, methionine, threonine, tryptophanThese typicallyare added at up to 0.2 to 0.4%, but not higher. Lysine and methionine are most commonly used and threonine and tryptophan less commonly.SaltSalt is added as a source of Na and Cl, and to improve palatability. It is usually a fixedaddition at 0.25-0.35%Feed Formulation Assignment• Fill in the 2 tables:• The first should be the nutrient requirements of your target animal• The second should be the ingredient list for the 2 diets. The ingredients should total 100%. Below the ingredients, write out the nutrient levels. These should meet or exceed the values in the first table.Feed Ingredient Report Assignment• After you have formulated your 2 diets, write a report that describes what you did.- What species and stage of production did you formulate a diet for?- What was the composition of the corn/soy diet and the diet with alternative ingredients. Do the nutrient levels in the diets meet the requirements of the animal you selected?- How does the proximate analysis of the 2 diets differ?- The report should be about 2 pages long.11/16/20145Grade• The feed formulation and report are worth 5 points each.• They are due by December 5th.• Email me with questions or
