Feed Formulation ExerciseChoose a species and stage of production:- poultry and swine will be easiest- growing (age or wt), pregnant, lactating, etc.Formulate two diets. The first would be a standard, Corn / soybean meal diet that meets the nutrient requirements of the species you are interested in. The second, a diet with at least 2 other energy / protein ingredients- U.S. gold standard for poultry and swine is a corn / soybean meal based diet.- Starting with your corn/soy diet, find some alternative ingredient to includethat replaces part of the corn and part of the soybean meal.Steps:Find nutrient requirements for the species you are interested in.Match diet to meet requirementsUsing WUFFDAGo to: Class eLC page under “Assignments”--Download the WUFFDA Excel file.--You will need to activate the Solver function in Excel. This is under AAdd-insA--Energy values in WUFFDA are for poultry. If you are doing a swine rationyou will need to change the values.--The Ca:P ratio is set at 2:1 as a default. For swine diets, it is best if this is turned off. Do this by setting the Ca:P ratio minimum and maximums to -100 and 100 on the ANutrientsA page.--Find the category of animal or bird you want to formulate a diet for and putthose requirements in the first 2 columns of the ANutrientsA page.Complete attached form with requirement table and diet composition tableFeed Formulation AssignmentSpecies: SwineStage of Production (Age, body wt): Gestating sowWrite out the nutrient requirements for the species and stage of production that youare targeting.Nutrient RequirementEnergy, Kcal/g 3.27Lysine 0.46Methionine 0.13Cysteine 0.00Threonine 0.37Tryptophan 0.00Isoleucine 0.27Leucine 0.00Valine 0.31Arginine 0.00Phenylalanine 0.27Histidine 0.15Calcium 0.75Total Phosphorus 0.60Available P 0.35Add vitamin premix at 0.25% A assume all water and fat soluble vitamin needs aremet.Add mineral premix at 0.15%: assume Fe, Cu, Zn, I, Se, Mn needs are met.Diet CompositionWrite out the ingredients from the WUFFDA “Formulate Page” The ingredients should total to 100% and not have excess amounts of amino acids or other nutrients (see power point for examples).
