HST 096 1st Edition Lecture 16Outline of Last Lecture Outline of Current LectureThis lecture deals with the two pieces of media that we were assigned to watch, and how to shape an essay around them (the actual essay assignment can be found on Black board) Current LectureDances With Wolves-Buffalo Bill-For a generation after the end of the Indian Wars, Indian’s were part of the performing routines that perpetuated an image of Indians, for better or worse. These Indians were of different tribes and some were part of conflicts entirely unrelated to the shows that they where shown in.Who was Buffalo Bill- Civil War soldier- Bison Hunter- American scout- Indian Fighter- Turned Entrepreneur- His shows started in 1883o They lingered till 1916o Wild West happened in Fair Groundso Done by real Indians o Reenacted real skills of Indians(These Indians were the ones just recently beaten)o Possibly 70 million people saw this showo Potentially a thousand US cities saw the showo 12 foreign citieso Thousands of Indians hired to fill the partsBuilding the Paper for ClassThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
