Specific WomenOutline of Current Lecture Lecture: Guest Lecture: Rachel Levand, Military Historian PTSD from Wars and its long-term effects- Processual Memory o Creation of veterans is processual and comes in a series of waveImage of a VeteranWhat does a veteran look like?- Many stereotypical views of veteran (older, tired, white men)- Not the case, Rachel’s bf is an example- We have given a certain amount of prominence and importance in our societyo Most men try to claim status of Vietnam war veterans (not WWII or Iraq, etc) Why? Our society has created a stigma that goes along with hardships of Vietnam World War II: The Good War- Specific Images we see related to this waro Famous photo from Hiroshima where the soldiers are putting up a flago Fighter kissing girl on streets of NYC- The image of the war today is different from when it was happeningo Book called “Up Front”  Cartoons of life at war  Uncensored view of soldiers who were living in it Published cartoons showing the Vernacular side of the soldiers/waro Cartoon theme: Soldiers desperate to get drunk/drink alcohol at war Differences between officers and soldiers shownThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
