Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love- Commitment- Intimacy- PassionRomantic love involves passion which is very important. Passion involves activation and arousal, and remarkably, any form of strong arousal, good or bad, can influence our feelings of romantic love.2.) Romantic, Passion, Love- Arousal and Attraction- Shaky bridge experiment- (Dutton & Aron) they sent attractive women to interview unaccompanied younger men either in the middle of the spooky suspension bridge or on another bridge that was stable and close to the ground. The results ended with the men on the swaying bridge were thinking sexier thoughts about the women than the others that were on the stable one.- Physiological arousal intensifies our attraction, 2 different studies:- Fast heart beat that is coupled with- The belief that another person is the cause of your arousal3.) Our Thoughts- IntensifyingThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. Lee’s Styles of loving- Eros- finds good looks compelling and seeks an intense, passionate relationship- Ludus- considers love to be a game and likes to play the field.- Storage- prefers friendships that gradually grow into lasting commitments- Mania- is demanding, possessive, and excitable- Agape- is altruistic and dutiful- Pragma- is practical, careful, and logical in searching for a mate5.) Does Love Last?- “Passionate” and romantic feelings decline after marriage- Why?- Fantasy becomes reality- No novelty (new)- Arousal fades (the butterflies)- Dump the “fairytale” view6.) Liking and Loving- Liking: respect, admiration, companionship, pride.- Occurs when intimacy is high but passion and commitment are very low- Loving: attachment, caring, intimacy.- When high intimacy and passion occur together, people experience romantic
