COM 259 1st Edition Lecture 10You will be assigned a group to plan and present a complete public relations campaign. You will be asked to select your clients from a list/scenario provided to you. The purpose of this campaign is to begin to apply strategic public relations techniques in preparation for your work with an actual client in Com 414 -the PRISM capstone or COM 359 and COM 459 if you are a public relations major. This is an intensive assignment and will challenge you to analyze business situations. You should follow carefully the materialpresented in class and follow the same approach when working on your presentation.2) Your team should follow the same procedure as we have with the class case.Research: Begin by listing all of the questions and information you need to solve the problem. This most likely will be a fairly extensive list. Once you have the list, you must determine what informal and formal research techniques you will use to answer these questions. You will then create key findings-based on assumptions or actual information. Note: you are NOT to conduct any primary research. However, you may do as much secondary research as wish.Not everything you have gotten in the information is important, so the key findings are what are the most important points you will need to help solve the problem or address the challenge.Publics: Based on the key findings, you should determine your publics and provide a rationale fortheir selection. You must have primary publics and you might also have secondary, intervening, special, etc.Goals: What are the specific goals of your plan? Note all publics must be covered by your goals. And in fact, all publics you identify must be covered for the remainder of the plan.Objectives: Remember objectives must be tied to a specific public, be measurable, take place for a specific time period, etc.These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.Strategies: What is the overreaching method you will use to carry out the plan, meet your goals, etc.?Messages: What are the specific messages you will communicate to each of the public to achieve your goals? Are they clearly linked to the problem and are they appropriate for the publics?Tactics: What are the communication vehicles you will use to carry out your strategies and communicate your messages? These tactics must be clearly described, well thought-out, clearly and completely communicate the key messages and must be feasible, practical and realistic. Please be creative as long as you meet the above guidelines. Are the enactments materials visually appealing, free of grammatical error, etc.?Timeline: What is the detailed timeline for all aspects of the plan? This needs to be organized and easy to follow with specific dates.Budget: Each item and expense must be shown and given a total. You might need to do some research to get an idea of what items cost.Evaluation: What are the techniques you will use to show that you have met your goal, objectives, solved the problem? You might also consider how will you judge the effectiveness of each of your techniques.3) Each group will present their case to the class on the assigned day. These presentations must be 10-15minutes in length. You will lose points if they fall outside of this time frame by even one second. No one is allowed to read anything during the presentation. You must use professional public speaking skills. I encourage you to rehearse these presentations numerous times. There should be clear transitions between the sections and this must be a cohesive presentation. I also encourage you to use Powerpoint slides to walk us through your plan, etc. If you use slides, a hard copy must be turned in with your presentation book at the time you speak. The team will then be expected to answer question about theirpresentation.4) You must turn in a project book that includes:A: A 10 page summary of your planB: An appendix that includes enactment materials you wish to include as well as other additionalinformation you feel your client might need.These books, samples of which are available in my office, must be turned in when you begin your presentation, along with peer evaluations. The books must be presented in a professional manner as if they were going to the actual client to win the account.5) While I have little faith in peer evaluations helping anyone improvement. Some mechanism for your groups to discuss strengths and also to accept the reality that in most cases not everyone contributes equally to a project is needed. All members of the group must complete the peer evaluation form which you may sign or not sign. However, you may not give everyone in the group the same rating. If this occurs, serious deductions will occur for that individuals score. Note: the best feedback and best groups give continuous feedback and deal with issues of performance or problems as they occur. Please bring a member’s non contribution or inadequate performance to the professor’s or your teaching assistant’s attention immediately. 6) Grading Criteria: Please review the attached grading sheet. A “C” project meets all of the minimal requirements, includes all parts of the plan and completes the assignment. Note you must have at least three enactment materials in your book. A “B” project goes beyond the minimal requirements perhaps including more actual tactical implementation and demonstrates a command of the planning process and has few, if any, errors in logic and is integrated. An “A” project goes beyond the minimal requirements and provides a professional, comprehensive plan with no gaps in logic, integration,
