Name _____Rachel Ryza_______rr32926____________Extra credit #2: Exam Result Analysis1. Review your errors on the exam and fill in the chart below with the numbers of the questions you missed. Put a cross under the type of mistake you made, and total the crosses in each column. Note that more than one error may apply for each question. Types of mistakes:1. Misread the question or overlooked key facts given in the question. 2. Could not recall factual subject matter or key term(s).3. Incorrect or unclear reasoning or lack of organization.4. Did not understand the language or precise meaning of the question.5. Unable to apply or in a calculation problem, forgot formula / method.Q. #Type(s) of mistake(s) made(List all that apply)Q. #Type(s) of mistake(s) made(List all that apply)1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 4 515 x16 x23 x28 x x29 x x32 x xNow total your crosses in each error category1 2 3 4 5Total 3 3 2 12. List errors that you think you made, but which are different from the types 1-6 above:I think I rushed through the multiple choice questions after I finished the short answer portion of the test. I missed 15 because I forgot that the methyl group was attached to the carbons. For 16, I chose A- structural isomers only, but now realize there was an enantiomer as well due to the 2 asymmetric carbons. I missed 23 because I forgot to multiply 46g by 5 to get the total grams needed for the 5 liters of solution. I missed 28 because I did not have a good understanding of rRNA or tRNA. I missed 29 but I should not have because I know that all trans fatty acids are unsaturated and then become saturated with hydrogen. I also missed 32 because I forgot that hydrogen bonds can be formed between a strong electronegative atom and hydrogen, not just with oxygen atoms. 3. List changes that you will make (to your studying and/or your exam-taking) to improve your score on the next exam (see below for some suggestions).I will take my time going through each answer choice to make sure I am not overlooking anything. I will make sure that I go over all of the basic understanding of concepts before studying the more in depth material. I felt like I missed more of the easier questions because I overlooked the easier material. I will make sure to read through the textbook, especially with concepts I have a hard time understanding. I will also draw diagrams, make flashcards, and draw pictures to help study before each upcoming test.Common mistakes made on exams (and some solutions to them)1 Misread the question or overlooked key facts given in the question Don’t get flustered during the exam! Slow down; focus on each word of every question. Underline or write down key facts in an ordered way that helps you understand what information you are given and what answer is being requested. In NEGATIVELY worded questions, which ask which choice is FALSE, underline or circle the negative descriptor in the question to emphasize it. Then read each answer choice and cross out the TRUE choices. Then judge which of the remaining choices is absolutely always false or is false in the conditions specified in the question.2. Could not recall factual subject matter or key term(s)Study regularly between exams. The following measures will help:a. Before each lecture: Look at key figures and key terms in the course guide and text. b. Within 24 hours after each lecture: Re-read your notes and compare with the PowerPoint slides from that lecture. If anything seems confusing, clarify by reading the course guide. c. Each week: Actively read the pages in the course guide covered in lecture. Active reading means that you locate the key concepts and list them in order. The introductory outline and end-of-chapter summary tell you what is most important. Focus on those facts first. Create clusters of ideas and organize them spatially based on their relationships into concept maps. Fill in your knowledge by reading the textbook. Look at the PowerPoint slides for each topic and make sure you understand each key topic covered in lecture. d. Before each exam: Test your knowledge by completing the worksheets and old exams without looking at the answer key. Treat this as a trial run for the real exam. Find your trouble spots and review those topics again.3. Incorrect or unclear reasoning or lack of organization, needed to see the big picture (for questions regarding processes or sequences, forgot some steps or confused the relationships between steps / elements) Draw concept maps or flowcharts. Application questions often require more time to answer. You will proceed more rapidly if you already have concepts interlinked in your mind. Read each answer choice word for word and decide whether any word could be considered untrue or questionable. Eliminate choices in this way until one answer becomes clearly superior to the others. Sometimes multiple answers seem true. In this case it may help to determine which answer MUST be true versus which answer is only sometimestrue.4. Did not understand the language or precise meaning of the question.Reading comprehension may be hurting you in these cases. Improve by reading the textbook and other reading material as often as possible.5. In a calculation problem, forgot formula / method. The best way to remember a formula or calculation method is to solve as many practice problems as you can in every possible variation before the exam. Also, try to figure out the formula (in terms of where it came from) so that you can recall it better in the exam; memorization is not always the best
