What animals are in Penelope’s dream?—20 geese and an eagle Odysseus’ adventures part 2- Hes on his way home - The visit past sirens- beautiful voiced and women try to take the Greeks they would crash on their way to the songo Odysseus puts wax in his men’s ears and is tied up o The song that they sing is about troy - Scylla and Charybdiso Six headed monster- if you go too far away you go to Charybdis (whirlpool) - Island of the Sun- whatever he cant do is eat the cattle and he eats the cattle (stuck on the island and run out of food so they eat the cattle out of desperation) - rest of his crew is now dead and his is the only survivor Second half of the poem- Phaeacian’s take him home to Ithaca finally (give him many gifts)- He now has to reintegrate into life  make his homecoming real - He cant recognize Ithaca when he first arrives home (Athena has tricked him to make his more cautious) - Athena arrives disguised and he lies to her about who he is (they both call each other out for lying) - Goes to see Eumaeus- his old swineherd- tests him to see if he is still loyal (He is angry atanyone who suggests that they know where Odysseus is because of previous conmen) o He lies about who he is again - Telemachus goes home - he meets Theolymenus (a prophecy) they see a bird that sends agood omen (hawk kills a dove) - Odysseus and Telemachus meet at Eumaeus’ hut (first as a beggar then he turns back into himself) they hug and weep - Go to the castle- disguised (he gets to see how the suitors have behaved) he has arrived him just in time Odysseus is tested in his own homeThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
