Black women vs. White women in 1700’s Current Lecture:Movie: - Slave trade became international economy (essential part) - Men under 20 were most valuable and women under twenty was second- Slaves may have been from rival tribes in Africa but everyone united in America- Slave to White ratio in Carolina: 2:1- Sound of pounding rice in west Africa= domesticity - Sound of pounding rice in America= sound of exploitation- Whites had to carry guns on Sundays because slaves had Sundays off, and they feared anuprising - The Charleston Stonewall rebellion - The freedom fighters were killed and their heads were put around town on display as a fear tactic - Made the Black code to ensure slaves behaved - 1863 slaves were freed - In Africa, women did agricultural work but in America males and females did it to emasculate the men - Castration was used to emasculate men Other Laws in 1670: These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
