Status is very dependent based on what family you are born into. Agamemnon speaks with Nestor (14) and suggests giving up because Achilles and none of the other Greeks want to fight. (he realizes that their cause is falling apart and they don’t have the will to fight) Odysseus says they are disgraceful Hera devises plan to get around Zeus- She seduces Zeus o Goes to Aphrodite to get a girdle that will make her irresistible - After sex he will fall asleep and while he is sleeping her allies can get involved- While this is happening the other Gods help with the war Homer is not explicit while describing sex- says flowers grow around while Zeus and Hera have sex (metaphor) (old Hollywood symbolization of sex) dew on grass..etc. Hector is on the flood bleeding and vomiting because Ajax hit him in the chest with a stone and almost kills him —Apollo comes and saves him (days of heroes are better than the days of the present) These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. Hera says if she does then not everyone will praise him anymore because other gods will have lost all their children or ask for the same treatment.
