Islam Monday 4/21 Shahadah – profession of faith. Makes two claims. 1. God is the only God 2. Muhammad is a man on earth. Tawhid - oneness, all-ness, unity, god is one. Shirk- to have an association with or a relationship with anything that is not Allah. Kafir- a barbarian Jihad- goal of Islam; your personal individual struggle to remember Allah now Holy war: if you have a safe place then you do not have the right to go to war. - Lesser Jihad- condition do you or do you not currently(right now) have the opportunity and safe place to practice the greater jihad Sufi- Islamic mystic, you solve the problem of JihadDhikr- (zikr) to repeat, repetition in two ways:1. Repetition of word 2. Repeat a motion and the repeat the Shahadah Or means: Remembrance, the only way you can do that is to loose yourself. islam : (lower case i) to submit or surrender oneself. Ummah- community of submitters, world wide community of Muslims - No uniqueness - No individuality - Zero rights - The community has rights- Communal salvation not individual
