BIOL 242 1st Edition Lecture 7When Guard cells are turgid, the stoma is open. When the Guard cells are flaccid the stoma is closed. This is caused by potassium ions and osmosis. Wood comes from secondary growth of xylem. This is what caused trees to become wider in size.In plants, mitotic activity is best in the spring with larger cells being produced and summer due to warmer temperature and plenty of water. Normally in trees there are two rings produced in one year, with the thicker and lighter ring being in the spring and the darker and narrow ring in the summer. Bark is going to be made up of secondary phloem, and periderm (cork).Plants use different hormones like Auxin, Cytokinins, Gibberellins, Abscisicacis and Ethylene.Auxin is responsible for cell elongation, stem elongation and growth, formation of roots, and other growth within the plant. This hormones are produced in the apical meristems and found in other immature parts of the plant.Cytokinins stimulate cell division and differentiation, prevent the aging of leaves and promote bud formations. This hormone is found in the root apical meristems and can befound in embryos and fruits.Gibberellins promote stem elongations and leaf growth, fruit sets, and stimulate enzymesynthesis in germinating seeds. This can be found in root and shoot tips, leaves and seeds.Abscisic acid generally slows down the growth of buds, antagonizes the other hormones, inhibition of seed germinations and control the stomate closure during times of water stress and can be found in leaves, fruits and seeds.Ethylene is a gas that helps ripen fruit and can be found in the roots, leaves and flowers. These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute. Most of the body of a fungus is underground made up of may hypha that together make up the mycelium. There are three types of hypha: septate, coenocytic and haustoria.Fungi go through zygotic life
