Meta -Analysis- It is statistically combining the results from many different studies of the same question. - Results = “effect size”2.) Gender- It is socially constructed.Gender Difference: refer to social and psychological distinctions that are created by our culturesand upbringing. Many men are capable of just as much tenderness and compassion toward the young as any woman is, but if we expect and encourage women to be the primary caregivers of our children, we can create cultural gender differences in parenting styles that are not natural orinborn at all. • Men are supposed to be considered “masculine,” which means that they are expected to be assertive, self-reliant, decisive, and competitive. Women are expected to be “feminine,” or warm, sensitive, emotionally expressive, and kind.3.) “Moderate” effect size- 85% of men and women are the same. Only 15% are different.4.) “Small” effect size- Up to 90% of men and women are the same.Keep in mind: differences can be real, but small. These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
