It is crucial that you get the MyStatLab access code with your textbook. It comes packaged with textbook at the UT bookstore for approximately $122.95; most of the other bookstores near campus sell them packaged together as well. If you purchase the book without the MyStatLab access code you will need to buy one directly from the Pearson website, the cost for the access code alone will be approximately $95. The online homework system comes with access to the eBook. You may buy the access code directly from the Pearson website and not get a hardcopy ofthe textbook if you wish.Technology/Calculators: The website for the online homework is at the web address www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com see the blackboard website for more details. A graphing calculator is required for this course. The Math Department highly recommends and provides support for the TI-83+ and TI-84+ models, you will need one of these or another calculator capable of doing ALL required functions for this course. Devices with internet capability are prohibited. Course Description: An introduction to probability and statistics without calculus. Not available for credit to students in the College of Business Administration. This course qualifies for 3 credit hours towards the Quantitative Reasoning (QR) distribution requirement. This courseis not required for any mathematics degree and therefore does not support the degree-level learning objectives for the Mathematics Department.Free tutoring is provided for all 100 level and most 200 level math courses. Help is available during the day in Ayres Hall room G012 (east basement) and in the evenings in the north commons on the second floor of Hodges library. These assignments may include textbook problems aswell as assorted handouts, the due dates for which will be announced in class. There will be in class quizzes, but I will be dropping 2 written assignment / quiz grades so no make-up quizzes will be allowed. These quizzes may or may not be announced ahead of time.Attendance: Will be taken daily, you are expected to be in class on time, prepared to learn, with your homework ready to turn in at the beginning of each class period. You will be held responsible for all material covered in class. This includes, but is not limitedto homework assignments, quizzes and exam date announcements. More than three absences may result in your grade being lowered.Make up exams: Make-up Tests will be given at the discretion of the instructor. The instructor considersmake-up tests a privilege, not a right. The student requesting a make-up test should make a reasonable effortto contact the instructor (preferably by email) within 24 hours of missing the test. Failure to do so may resultin a grade of 0 for the missed test. If a make-up test is approved by the instructor, the student will be notifiedvia email. Students requesting a make-up test should be diligent about checking email for a response from the instructor. The content of the make-up test may significantly differ in format from the scheduled test, andthe student must complete the make-up test within the time frame indicated by the instructor. Failure to read email in a timely manner is no excuse for missing the approved make-up time frame. The instructor mayrequire verifiable documentation of the illness or emergency or may request that the student obtain verification from the Dean of Students Office ([email protected], 865-974-3179).Missed/Late assignments: You will each be allowed one late “Written Homework” assignment no questions asked. It must be turned in at the beginning of the next class period after it was originally due. No assignments will be accepted more than one class period late! If you are absent, the assignment will be due at the beginning of the class period following your return. The online “homework” will be accepted after the due date with a 15% late penalty. However, assignments will no longer be made available after theexam covering that material. The online “quizzes” may not be done after the due date.To be successful in this class: You should actively participate in every class (which by definition means attend them!), asking questions when you have them.
