Personality science in everyday lifeLecturePersonality Science- Personality science is the scientific study of what humans are like.- In order to understand and study what people are like, two (2) aspects, or dimensions, must be taken into account: 1) The typical ways people think, feel and behave in general2) The typical ways people think, feel and behave in everyday life- Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are very coherent AND predictable. That is, individual thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are stable across time and across situations. - Personality traits are most often used to distinguish people from each other. Two (2) examples are:1) Conscientiousness: Being very organized, careful, accountable, etc.2) Extraversion: Being outgoing, sociable, hyperactive, etc.Comparing PersonalitiesSimilarities- Being like many other people means that there is a shared commonality among a host ofpeople, but not among everyone.- Cultural background- Gender- Historical cohortThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
