Adam Nadeem; G16SCMT309 – PappuAssignment 03 – Mumbai Dabbawallahs10/9/14I think that the Mumbai Dubbawallahs will survive because; it is proven that people enjoy a home-cooked meal much more over a meal from a fast food joint. Not only is it a healthier option, it is also a more satisfying option. Most men prefer food cooked from their wives at home or from their mothers. I think India is the perfect location for the Dabbawallahs to thrive; one reason is that labor is always available. It’s a very cheap and convenient service that benefits the consumer one hundred percent of the time. The Mumbai Dabbawallahs have already survived over a centuryand plan to stay up and kicking for many more years to come. The Dabbawallahs have some of the most loyal customers; the demand for a home-cooked meal while at work in the office or at school in the classroom is always going to be there. There is a statistic that the Dabbawallahs recorded: one in every fifteen million deliveries has an error. There is a very low margin for error in this kind of system, though it seems that error would be something that occurs quite frequently in this kind of system that lacks the technological means, but no there is hardly any error if that. The customers feel a sense of ownership like they are apart of the dabbawallah team, because of how efficient and consistent the dabbawallahs are. It is said that street vendors and restaurant franchises are huge competition for the Dabbawallahs,but as I said earlier, the fact is that people prefer a home-cooked meal because it is cheaper, it tastes like it has more quality, it is more efficient because you don’t have to go anywhere to get it, it is delivered right to you, and also you don’t waste the timegoing to get the food. I personally think that the no firing policy will just help them rapidly expand their business and give them a sense of culture. Even though most of the employees are illiterate they still can read the basic numbers in the addresses and postal codes on where they need to be and they get there as quick as possible. The Dabbawallahs are a good business in India and as I said earlier they will survive and be successful for many more centuries to
