GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.Today - there are Google glasses, iWatches, 3D printing nowadays - wearable technology is the new thing - many everyday items are becoming infused with information technology o Ex. smart fridges - can remember what you have in your fridge, when things will expire, what you should have for dinner based off of the inventory - Moore's Law - the number of transistors on an integrated circuit (the computer's brain) will double every 2 years and cost per transistors will decrease o created by Gordon Moore in 1965 o at some point this may not be true anymore Terminology - personal computer (PC) - a laptop or a desktop; your personal computer o both Windows AND Macs are PCs) - server - controls access to hardware, software and other resources on a network; o powerful computers that can handle multiple requests o a server simply serves out information (ex. web server, mail server, etc.) o bigger clients need bigger servers (so that traffic can be handled) o DDoS (distributed denial of service) - troll throws so many requests at a server so that it stops taking in legitimate requests, needs a firewall in order to stop the troll's requests - mainframes - large and powerful computers that can handle large amounts of users o responsible for handling 83% of financial transactions around the world - supercomputers - most powerful computers that can handle quadrillion requests per second o used by entities with A LOT of data (needed by Google, IBM, NASA, Department of Defense, weather systems, etc.) - embedded computer - a computer that is a part of a larger computing system (ex. airbagsare a real-time computing system are within your overall car system, GPS, etc.) - the Internet of Things (IOT) - everything in society is connected, everything is beginning to have a computing system in it that (ex. smart appliances, etc.) o Ex. alarm clock is synced to your calendar, automatic heating system on a timer, remote car starters, computed coffee brewer is preparing coffee for you on your way into the office,
