Types of FamiliesCurrent LectureFamily- any relatively stable group of people bound by ties of blood, marriage, adoption, or any sexually expressive relationship, or who simply live together, and who are committed to and provide each other with economic and emotional support. Social Institution: - A major source of socialization - Shaped by their relationship to system of inequality: poor, minority, religion, sexual orientation- A place of continuous change of diversity Types of Families:- Isolated nuclear family- mom, dad, kids, no extended family in the house (extended family living in the same house is common in many countries outside of U.S.)- Two-Earner Family- Both adults work (recent rise in these types of families due to economy)- Single Parent- 1 adult income needed - Childless/Post Child Family- no children but married/ all children moved out- Domestic Partnership- documents legally binding two people- Chosen Family- a family someone chooses: band, friends, frat/sorority, cult, etc. - Blended Family- Brady Bunch family. Most common types of family.
