How are the 5 parts of the Model of Causality involved in causing depression; (Physio-personal, Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, Meta-personal, Non-personal)?Current LectureI. Model of CausalityA. The Physio-personal part of the model of causality says that persons are caused by his/her body and nature. B. The Intrapersonal aspect of the model explains that persons are caused by his/her mind. Causes come from “within.”C. The Interpersonal part explains how persons are caused by the close relationships in his or her life. “Between persons.” D. Meta-personal says that persons are caused by culture and history (meta means “without”)E. Non-personal part of the model explains that persons are caused by their physical environment and things that come from this ex: drinking, drugs.II. Depression and The Model of CausalityA. The fundamental question of psychology is; “What is the cause of a person?” Thismodel helps us understand all of the factors that contribute to the causality of a person. Variables of each of the 5 parts of the model may be involved in causing a person’s depression in a different way. B. How can each part be involved in causing depression? A physio-personal variable that could have effect on one’s depression could be being born with paralysis. A physical disability or illness to one’s body could contribute to depression. A person’s depression can also be caused by the intra-personal aspect of causality if he/she is constantly having negative thoughts about his or her life. Depression can come from within the mind according to theintrapersonal part. The Interpersonal part “between persons” could contribute to ones depression if someone’s close family member dies or if anything happened to someone close in their lives because this is a relationship that they have with another person. An example of how meta- personal “culture and history” aspects cause a person would be how all of the great people in history and our culture have affected our lives (Plato, Aristotle, Decartes, and Locke). This could cause depression if a person was involved in slavery and the history of that event affects their depression. Non-personal causes of a person would be a person’s drug addictions or other causes from their physical environment. If a person was addicted to cocaine it would cause them to lie and even deceive theirfamily causing them to go into a depression feeling
