Christian SalazarUH ID: 0979809Chapter 11 Case Study 1 Case 1: This case is about1. Do managers like Janis Blancero face a more complicated decision when evaluating the personal requests of employees versus evaluating employees’ individual work performance? Explain.Yes, managers like Janis Blancero do face a more complicated decision when evaluating the personal requests of employees versus evaluating employees’ individual work performance because these managers know that administering the organization’s benefits program in evaluating individual employees in their personal requests and evaluating individual work performance is both costly and time consuming for the organization. As in this case, it becomes complicated for Janis to calculate giving Teresa and Dorothy a four day work week, Juan’s requestto accommodate his morning and afternoon training schedule, and Susan having to go on maternity leave. Out of all these requests, the only legitimate request that I see is Susan’s because she is covered under the law to have maternity leave. As for the other employees askingfor extra accommodations of coming in late or leaving early for non-legitimate reasons I do not see this as acceptable. The company already offers an attractive family-friendly benefits package which includes flexible schedules, child and elder care assistance, counseling services, adoption assistance, and extended parental leave. What Janis has do to is deny the other requests because in the long run it does affect employee performance and it becomes very costly for the company. 2. a. Should Adobe establish a policy for granting flexible work schedules? Most definitely Adobe needs to establish a clear and very detailed policy which will have several categories for granting flexible work schedules. The policy should have employee handbooks given to every employee as well as have the policy on the internet where it can easilybe accessible by the employees. Furthermore, Adobe should have employee meetings where they will have information sessions on what exactly are the conditions for any employee to beChristian SalazarUH ID: 0979809granted flexible work schedules as well as access to benefits providers to help the employees that may not be granted flexible work schedules due to the costs and work performance that thecompany requires. Also, the company should include in the policy what benefits the company already offers which I mentioned in question one like the family-friendly package and other programs.3. If you were Janis Blancero, how would you resolve this dilemma? Explain. If I were Janis Blancero I would resolve this dilemma by meeting with my upper division supervisors and establishing a policy for establishing the flexible work schedules. Also since it is obvious that the company’s flexible work hours programs is creating a lot of tension within the company, I would suggest an overview of this program and what things can be changed in the program so that there is a balance of keeping the senior account managers satisfied and also having my employees productive at work. Finally I would meet one on one with my employees that are asking for all these days and hours off and be straightforward with them and let them know that yes I can accept certain requests and the reasons why I have to deny other requests. In the end, the employees work for Adobe, not the other way
