There is a lot of information about a lot of related topics, I found it overwhelming. Under the web site of www.dot.ca.gov, this is the department of transportation of Cal. Or Caltrans, on this site there is a link to the Governors web site, live traffic reporting, featured at the top is a picture of the new Carquinez bridge announcing that it is open, you can go to the link provided and see movies of it being built. Also features are the campaign of “slow for the cone zone” which has a link to learn more. Other major links include; real-time freeway speed maps, road traffic & travel looks at scenic highways, rails, roadside rest areas, and their “Adopt-a-Hwy” campaign. You can also find out how it is to dobusiness with Caltrans by using their link from this main page. There is a lot of links related to anything traffic in California, very informative. The last web site www.ite.org, this is the Institute of Transportation Engineers web site, there are links at the top which pertain to their bookstore, employment center, technical information, professional development, directories and calendar of events. Other links include; joining ITE, about ITE, the chapters, its councils, a member’s only page, elected leaders, student leaders, ITE Espanol. Articles headlines & announcements; information on the ITE meeting during TRB annual meeting, ITE training opportunities clearing house is now available, apparently they have a database that will search and locate seminars and course information that helps train in the transportation field. To continue with articles and headings; an ad for the MUTC 2003 Edition, a solicitation for funding the professional development program, there is a link to a Power Point Presentation on transportations role in Emergency Response & Recovery, there is a posting of congratulations to all who passes the PTOE exam and gives some statistics about the exam, and lastly there is also an interesting article on a hypothesis of “Urban sprawl also spread waistlines.”4) What is SAFETEA? Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act of 2003. This is still pending from what information I was able to find, therefore it has not already been approved by the Congress. This bill addresses the issue of Safety, specifically the operations and transportation of not only daily commuters but it also takes into account the safe transportation of hazardous materials, sanitary food to name just a few. This bill also takes into account finance, highway programs, environmental concerns the one that stands out for me is the environmental stewardship program just the fact that this issue is becoming of great concern. Also, public transportation both interstate, urbanized area state managed programs which includes job access and reverse commute access, and also planning and research. This bill is very extensive in that it touches on every thing that probably should have been in consideration in the first place, it is however great to see that we have some forethought of our actions and how it affects the surroundings and the
