Riverside Community College Course Syllabus AMY-10 Survey of Human Anatomy and Physiology: Fall 2009 Course Code: 37015 Course Hours and Location: Friday 10:30 am – 1:53 pm ATEC 204 Instructor: Corrie Canaday email: [email protected] Website: http://faculty.rcc.edu/canaday Required Text: Marieb, Elaine N. 2009. Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology, 9th edition. Pearson/Benjamin Cummings, San Francisco. ISBN: 0-321-51353-3 I. Course Details: This a three credit class aimed at exploring basic human anatomy and physiology with an emphasis on cell organization, tissues, and organ systems. Most of you will be going into the health field, as such students are expected to cover and learn a lot of material. This class will require dedication, commitment, and hard work to be successful. I do be prefer a dynamic classroom, but please be courteous to others, including your instructor. II. By the end of the course, students will be able to: a. Discuss the structure and function of cellular structures, processes within the cell, and the cell cycle b. Understand the functions of the systems of the body, the structural organization, and the relationship between systems. c. Understand the importance of homeostasis d. Understand and explain abnormalities of the human body III. Grades: There will be 3 exams and a comprehensive final examination. All exam grades will count and NO MAKE-UP EXAMS will be given. Four quizzes will also be given throughout the semester. Missed quizzes cannot be made up. Students with less than 3 absences will be allowed to replace their lowest exam grade with their final exam score. You cannot replace a 0, so you will not be allowed to miss an exam and use the final score to make it up. 3 Lecture Exams (100 points each) 300 Comprehensive Final Exam 150 Quizzes (25 points each) 100 Participation (6 x 5 points each) 30 Total = 580 Your final grade will be determined using a standard percentage scale (90-100% = A; 80-89% = B; 70-79% = C; 60-69% = D; below 60% = F). IV. Participation: Participation points are given during each class period. Students will be required to answer a short question thoughtfully, but will not be graded for accuracy. Students must answer the question to receive participation points. Participation points may not be made up if missed. As college students, I expect everyone to display respect and consideration for peers, the classroom, and your instructor. Please arrive to class on time and be prepared. We are all equally responsible for generating a meaningful learning environment. Use of cell phones (including texting) is prohibited in the classroom.V. Academic Honesty: You will be expected to adhere to RCC policies concerning academic honesty. Anyone caught cheating or plagiarizing will receive a 0 for that assignment and may be subjected to institutional disciplinary action according to RCC policy. VI. Disability Accommodations: If you have a documented physical, psychiatric, medical, or learning disability that may impact your ability to complete assigned work, I recommend contacting Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSP&S). All information is confidential. VII.
