You will be actively involved in learning and integrating practical applications to promote success. You will develop an educational plan while enhancing critical thinking and study strategies. In layman terms: This course will help you succeed in college. You will learn practical tips about college that will help you do well in your classes. You will also develop an educational plan that will help you reach your future career goals. Goals of the Course (associate degree outcomes) Assess your learning styles, assess your career aptitudes and build a Student Education Plan for academic success. (ADO 7: Think Critically) Improve study strategies to enhance your understanding and to succeed in courses. (ADO 7: Think Critically) Develop leadership skills by participating in student life and service learning opportunities. A main journey is one of learning more about yourself, your strengths, and your learning styles. This journey includes gaining confidence in yourself as you become part of the college community. Learning journey. This journey includes active learning, effective and efficient study strategies, effective test-taking, and time management. College Journey. We will explore the journey of college, using resources, and understanding the processes. Life Journey. All of these journeys are involved in forming the career path you choose. This course will help with your career choice and with developing an education plan toward that goal. Reading Discussion Lectures Discussions and lectures are not meant to take the place of your reading. Discussions will add to your reading through sharing personal thoughts, ideas, fears, strengths and weaknesses. This will allow us to help and learn from each other as a means to achieve our goals. I will bring to discussions and lectures thoughts and ideas from sources other than your reading assignments. These will support and enhance what you have already read. Inner journey of learning more about ourselvesLearning journey in coursesCollege journey of navigating your wayLife Journey: Career and Education pathsOn-line Holmes 3 Your areas of responsibility for learning Timeliness – Students are expected to be prepared for each week and to participate with corresponding discussions. It is presumed by the facilitator that assignments, including reading, will be completed on time and prior to lecture material on subjects being presented; such preparations allows the student the best learning opportunities to understand material presented and pose questions in areas requiring clarity It is the student’s responsibility to have a proper reliable internet connect which is available several times per week. . Attendance and Participation – You will get the most from this course by logging on several times per week, by participating in the learning activities online, and completing the assignments. All Work: Every assignment is to have on each page: Your name The course and section along with the DAY of your class The date and assignment title Spelling, grammar, neatness and organization will be considered Reflections / Journals: Reflection papers are to be typed. Each reflection should be about 2-3 paragraphs long. A paragraph should be 3-5 sentences long. Double space with 12 point readable font (times new roman, ariel) with 1 inch margins Reflections are the assigned weekly. Homework: Typed if it is a written assignment with the same criteria as for reflections Ethical behavior: Academic honest is expected of all students. This means using your own work, no plagiarism, no cheating or helping others cheat. If ethical behavior is not followed, it will be handled as outlined in the Student Rights and Responsibility handbook. The assignment in question will receive a 0%.
