HORTICULTURE/LANDSCAPEHORTICULTURE/LANDSCAPEGARDEN CARE Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History We need volunteers to help care for our Garden Learning Center, which demonstrates ecological landscaping. For 2-3 hours a month, volunteers will weed, wipe down signs, and water or add new plantings as needed. This is a terrific way to get outside, learn how to maintain an eco-friendly garden and meet people with similar interests. Several historic gardens and fruiting trees require maintenance including a native plant garden, a mission era neophyte garden, a Victorian flower garden, and more. Gardening experience welcome but not required. Training will occur as needed. The park’s hours of operation are Thursday – Saturday, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. We are on public bus lines. This small historic park in the center of town features the oldest building in Santa Cruz, an adobe that was built by Ohlone and Yokut Indians during the Mission era. The building served as housing for neophyte families (California Indians who had been baptized in the mission.) The park and museum tell the story of the mission era through the lens of the California Indians’ experience.
