Updated 4/20/11-LF TAWES 1121/ULRICH RECITAL HALL AV SETUP GUIDE1 Part One: The Rack2 The rack is where all technology in the space is centered. Beginning from the top and going down, you will see: • A power indicator • Mic controls • CD Player • DVD/VCR • Computer • Second Power Indicator • Extron Switcher • Network switches • Crestron Control Units • Amp • Surge Protector These should all be on and functioning if the room is working correctly.3 If there is a problem with the: • MICROPHONES: o Check that the microphone is on and has sufficient battery life. o Check that the top mic receivers are on and have their level set to an adequate volume. o On the bottom of the rack, check that the amp that says "CROWN" has a blue light next to its power button on the bottom right. o On the bottom of the rack, check that the surge protector that says "SURGEX" has a green light on the upper right-hand corner. These are both behind kick shields. • ROOM PC: o Make sure the power indicator is solid blue. • No color means it is off. Press the power button to turn the machine on. • Blinking means it is asleep. Connect the cart and move the mouse to wake up. o NB: When closing up the room, never turn the computer off. Simply log out. o Make sure the correct input is selected on the crestron control panel. • Do not try changing inputs through the Extron switcher. This will confuse the room.4 • SCREEN: o Try the manual switch located at the from SR side of the stage, next to the panel socket. • If these are unresponsive, move behind the shell on the SR side and look for the lightswitch in the back, by the doors: • It should be in the UP position (pictured). If it is down, switch it up and try the buttons again.5 Part Two: Connecting Inputs To begin: On the Crestron Panel, press "Manual" You can now use the buttons on the right side to control the screen and projector.6 The Room PC The cart has a monitor and a keyboard that can be connected on or offstage to access the room PC. Please note that the cables (blue and black) should be wound around the handle (pictured), not thrown on the bottom of the cart. Items on the cart: • Monitor • Keyboard/Mouse • USB hub • Orange Extension Cord • 15' VGA/sound cable7 Please do not plug or unplug any part of the hardware without first consulting Lauren Friedman(x5-3781, [email protected]) To use the cart, plug the BLACK PLUG into a power socket and BLUE (KVM) CABLE into KVM socket. (pictured below) Then select "room PC" from the sources on the Crestron Panel. If you wish to use the cart offstage, there is an additional KVM socket located by the back doors SR.8 There are USB ports on the left side of the monitor for plugging in thumb drives or wireless presenters. If the computer does not work, check that the PC is turned on in the rack, and that the cart looks like the picture above, with both a blue and a black plug attached to the side.9 The AUX Panel From left to right: RCA input (red, yellow, white coded cable) S-Video Input Component Cable Input VGA In (w/sound) USA/LAN Ports VGA Out (w/sound) Each of these inputs has a matching picture under the "AUX PANEL" input on the Crestron control.10 RCA Input To be used for any external media that has an RCA cable for projection through the installed projector. S-Video Input To be used to connect any external media with an S-Video Cable for projection through the installed projector. Component Cable Input To be used to connect any external media with a Component Cable for projection through the installed projector. VGA In (w/sound) To be used with provided VGA cable- to connect external laptops for projection through the installed projector. USA/LAN Ports INACTIVE – DO NOT USE VGA Out (w/sound) To be used to attach an external monitor to the system. Monitor connected will display the same images as the projector.11 Additional Inputs DVD/VCR: Place a VHS tape or DVD disc into the player and select "VCR" or "DVD" from Sources. For the VCR: POWER: to turn the unit on or off. EJECT: Ejects the tape. STOP: Stops playback. PAUSE: Pauses playback. REW: Rewinds the tape. PLAY: Begins playback. FF: Fast Forward the tape. Please note the Volume control in the lower right hand corner.12 For the DVD Player: To access arrows to move around a menu screen, select "To Keypad" To make a selection, use the arrows and then press "Enter." To return to the previous screen, select "Back to Controls"13 For the CD Player: Select "To Advanced Controls" for the advanced screen:14 When You Are Done Select "Shutdown at the top right of the screen. Select "End of Day" – this will turn off the projector and bring up the screen. You must manually log out of the computer and return all components to their places.15 Part Three: Microphones There are three wireless microphones in Ulrich, but only two channels. A user may have two handhelds, a hand held and a lapel, one lapel mic, or one handheld mic. Microphones are stored in the second drawer from the bottom of the filing cabinet. When the microphone is turned on, the light above the "on" switch will turn green, and it is ready to be used.16 There is also a battery indicator on the microphone. If it drops below two bars, the battery should be replaced. On the handheld, this is achieved by unscrewing the bottom and replacing the battery found there. For the lapel mic, you can open the bottom of the housing and slide a new battery into place.17 To use a landheld with a mic stand or the provided podium, you can attach the mic clip (stored in the bag with the mic) by screwing it on. Non-functioning microphones and need for batteries should be reported to Lauren.18 Part Four: Lights There are three light control switches in Ulrigh: one at the back of the house near the doors, one stage right, and one stage left. There are five basic "looks": 1: House at full, stage at ½. 2. House at ½, stage at ½. 3: House at ½, stage at full. 4: House at 0, stage at full Off: All lights off. For the purposes of projection, you will want to use 1 or 2, as 3 and 4 will wash out the images on the
