Furthermore, each state has its own regulatory agency with regard to hazardous waste control and removal. Thus, it is imperative that HRS, Inc. comply with the standards mandated by those agencies, as well.Mini Business Plan - HRS, Inc.1.1 Mission ObjectivesThe goal of HRS, Inc. (Hazmat Removal Systems) is to increase the safety of employeesof certain industries, as well as the public, by developing robotic systems to removehazardous materials from sites. These sites include areas related to demolition andrenovation of buildings, as well as production processes. Due to the dangers of theworking environments associated with these fields, the employment turnover rate forHazardous Waste Removal employees increases each year. As a result, most industriesare constantly struggling to fill those positions needed to continue their productproduction. However, HRS, Inc. offers a solution to not only the employers, but also tothe employees. By providing a system to control the removal of “hazmats” from aremote location, a Hazardous Waste removal worker can be assured of his or her safetywhile controlling the system. As a result, employers are more likely to experience adecreased turnover rate.Currently, HRS, Inc. plans to develop solutions for the nuclear power industries. Withina period of two years, HRS, Inc. hopes to develop products and contract services for all12 power plants that are located in Southeastern states that currently meet the EPA’sResource Conservation and Recovery Act State Authorization program. Hence, within aperiod of two years, HRS, Inc. intends to cover the entire available market in theSoutheast. Within a period of 5 years, HRS, Inc. plans to grow out of the Southeast andincrease market share in other regions. Currently, the plan is to gain 40% of the marketshare over the next 5 years.1.2 Keys to SuccessTo Gain Approval from EPA and State AgenciesThe first step to achieving the objectives of HRS, Inc. is to acquire approval from theEnvironmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA has mandated a set of strictregulations regarding hazardous waste removal in the Resource Conservation andRecovery Act (RCRA). The majority of the regulations regarding hazardous wasteremoval are stated in RCRA: Subtitle C. The system developed by HRS, Inc. mustcomply with the standards stated in the aforementioned act.Furthermore, each state has its own regulatory agency with regard to hazardous wastecontrol and removal. Thus, it is imperative that HRS, Inc. comply with the standardsmandated by those agencies, as well.MarketingThe initial target market will be the electric and nuclear power industries. [A list ofelectric and nuclear power plants can be obtained from the Energy InformationAdministration of the U.S. Department of Energy.] Because our approval from stateagencies will be achieved at different times for each state, the current strategy is toapproach members of those industries on an individual basis. However, attendance atvarious conferences, such as the Electric Power Expo, will greatly increase the exposureof HRS, Inc.Providing varying solutions to varying industriesAs each industry dealing with hazmats varies, so do its needs and methods of hazmatremoval. Hence, it will be necessary to provide different systems to each type ofindustry. As HRS, Inc. grows, it will be able to cater to the needs of each of theseindustries. This will promote further growth and market capture. Other potential marketsfor HRS include the disposal of lead, mold, healthcare products, and other chemicalbyproducts.1.3 Target MarketHRS, Inc. initially intends to develop products for the nuclear power industries in theSoutheastern U.S. However, the company plans to grow and to create systems for otherindustries. Some of these other areas include: demolition & renovation sites (lead &asbestos abatement), manufacturing plants, mold remediation, and emergency & disasterresponse.Demolition and renovation sites can often have structures that are embedded withasbestos and lead. Exposure to either of these materials can lead to serious health risks. If asbestos becomes airborne, it can cause lung diseases, such as asbestosis. It can alsocause lung and gastrointestinal cancers. Lead can also endanger one’s health by causingnerve disorders, increased blood pressure, etc. Hence, it is imperative to remove thesehazmats before completing a demolition or renovation project.1.4 Competitive Advantage HRS, Inc. will dominate the competition in three key areas: efficiency, reliability, andsafety. With the hazmat removal system, waste can be quickly and precisely moved fromone location to another. Also, the systems will still be controlled by humans from a safedistance. This will allow the removal process to adapt to varying environments. Also, because only the robotic waste removal units will come in contact with the hazardousmaterial, there is a minimized potential for human danger should an accident occur.Furthermore, the service provided by HRS, Inc. will be second to none. During theprocess of system installation at a given site, service technicians will educate the futureusers of the system in its proper use. Because this can be a difficult time, servicetechnicians will stay at a given site for a period of up to two weeks. Finally, if anyproblems should arise, the very same technicians will visit the site to resolve the issue. Asecond option is for the customer to hire the technicians through HRS, Inc. (for an annualfee) to serve as robot operators. 1.5 Basic Strategies Stage IThe first stage in developing HRS, Inc. is the procurement or construction of a hazmatstorage and disposal site. Also required would be the construction of a minimum fleet ofwaste removal robots and obtaining certification from the EPA and any other agencies asrequired by the location of the site.Stage IIStage two consists of expanding the fleet of robots so that we can simultaneously meetthe needs of multiple clients. This would take place as the company’s market share grew.During this time, we can expect company employment to grow from 30% to 60%.Future GrowthOther future possibilities
