Goals:- The student will understand how to conduct basic statistical calculations. - The student will understand the application of basic statistical methods.- The student will understand APA writing format and the reporting of research results.- The student will learn the basic skills in the use of the scientific method as an approach to understanding research methodology, and advancing knowledge through critical thinking and skeptical inquiry. (Divisional Learning Goal 1)- The student will demonstrate information competence as shown by their ability to access, evaluate, and summarize psychological literature through writing and oral communication following American Psychological Association style guidelines. (Divisional Learning Goal 3)In this class you will be required to calculate statistics, graph data, and report results associated with statistics. Midterms must be made up within one weeks of original test date. The test given may or may not be the same as the original.Assignments: The assignments will be assigned a due date as the term unfolds. This means assignments are due on the assigned day at 10am. Assignments will be docked 1 point if handed in after the due date.Paper Proposal and Draft:The paper will be a work in progress across 2 terms. The oral presentation of your proposal will in power point and include slides on the theoretical issue, a proposed hypothesis, the intended subject sample demographics, an outline of the methodology and expect results. Students will be expected to critique the proposal helping the presenter refine their study. The Paper Draft #1 will include a title page, literature review (introduction) section, Methods section and References section. APA style will be emphasized for the paper draft. Extra credit will be given (10pts) for drafts that have been through the writing center (attach slip from writing center).Office Hours: Meeting time with the instructor will be available during office hours.Class Attendance and Discussion:Attendance is considered mandatory. Discussion in class is not mandatory. Class Cancellation:The instructor will notify you ahead of time if possible of class meeting time changes/cancellations. If the instructor is not present by 20 minutes after the scheduled start time, assume the class has been canceled. Honor:According to your student handbook students are not to engage in the following: (A) Cheating: intentionally using or attempting to use unauthorized materials information, or study aids in any academic exercise. This includes looking into notebooks, bags, or talking with students during tests.(B) Fabrication: intentional and unauthorized falsification or invention of any information or citation in an academic exercise.(C) Plagiarism: intentionally or knowingly representing the words or ideas of another as one’s own in any academic exercise.(D) Facilitating Academic dishonesty: intentionally or knowingly helping or attempting to help another to engage in any of the above behaviors.Students Needing Class Accommodations: A student who needs accommodations of any type can see me during my office hours or contact the Office of Disability Services (ODS) (838-8250) on
