KellerLab: Exercises provided by the instructor; Independent Lab report (select environmentaltopic, prepare short paper, and give 5-10 minute presentation)Course Objectives: To introduce you to some of today’s major environmental issues andto provide you with the geological background to understand and evaluate those issues.Course Grading: based on four lecture exams, lab average (average of completed labexercises and Independent Lab report), and class participation. Total of 100%.Exam I-III = 45% (15% ea.); final exam = 25%; lab aver. = 25%; participation = 5%Letter Grades are assigned according to standard scale: 90% and above = A; 80-89 = B;70-79 = C; 60-69 = D; below 60 = F.Attendance is recommended. Please review the University’s policy on class attendanceoutlined in the 2000-2001 USCA Bulletin. The level of difficulty of a science coursegenerally requires the attendance in order for the student to completely understand thematerial. Material presented in the lecture is intended to compliment the materialpresented in the text.Reading assignments: assignments listed on the attached schedule are from the requiredtext and should be completed prior to class. The student is responsible for all readingmaterial assigned, any handouts, and material presented in the lecture.Make-up exams: make-up exams will be offered only to those students who presentacceptable written excuses to the instructor. Acceptable excuses are those recognized bythe University and approved by the instructor.
