Form ABASIC SKILLS ADVISORIES Name of Course: Fire Technology 150K Fire Command 1C Department and Number TitleThe skills listed are those needed for "eligibility for English 125 and 126 or ESL 67 and 68, and Math 101." Theseskills are listed as the outcomes from English 252, 262 and Math 250, 260A-260F. In the left-hand column, checkoff at least three major math basic skills and/or four basic reading and writing skills as recommended preparation forthe outcome course, and enter how these skills and concepts will be used in the course in the right-hand column.Please enter a minimum of three of the checked exit concepts and skills (for both Math and English, asappropriate) from the left-hand column in the Entry Level Skills area on page 1 of the course outline.Math Skills (eligibility for Math 101) (as outcomes for Math 250 or 260A-260F) Perform the four arithmetic operations on whole numbers, arithmetic fractions, and decimal fractions. Make the conversions from arithmetic fractions to decimal fractions, from decimal fractions to percents, and then reverse the process. Apply the concepts listed above to proportions, percents, simple interest, markup and discount. Understand relationships in geometric figures. Understand perimeter, area, and volume of simple geometric figures. Convert between the metric and English measurement systems and convert within each system.Reading and Writing Skills (eligibility for English 125 and 126 orESL 67 and 68) (as outcomes for English 252 and 262) X Employ various techniques to recognize and use new vocabulary. Demonstrate ability to determine literal and interpretive meaning. X Demonstrate ability to analyze material critically . Demonstrate skills to employ reading strategies and the reading process. X Demonstrate skill in selecting and using appropriate study skills. X Demonstrate basic research skills. X Write short compositions which limit subjects, unify content by common purposes or main ideas, adequately develop ideas, use appropriate diction, and avoid extensive errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics. Demonstrate rhetorical effectiveness in writing from the standpoints of adult treatment of content, unity, substance, specificity, coherence, diction, and style. Demonstrate skill in writing and editing short assignments with the use of a computer word processor.1. Students must read and comprehend college level textbooks and reference materials.2. Students will be expected to be able to prepare properly punctuated responses to essay exam questions.3. Students will be required to use a variety of study skills to select the appropriate method to analyze problems.4. Students will revisit the reading process concentrating on prereading and rereading strategies that will improve the quality of the reading experience.Check the appropriate spaces: Eligibility for Math 101 is advisory for the outcome course.
