His 2560, EIU FA 2012, Newton KeyVermeer’s Seventeenth-Century Worlds (revised). (15% final grade, 5 pp., typed, double-spaced, and referencedusing Chicago Manual of Style/Turabian foot or endnotes, see guide at http://ux1.eiu.edu/~nekey/citate.htm). Due18/19 October (see below). Use a variety of primary sources (paintings, woodcuts, print) to show seventeenth-century Europeans’ views (primarily that of the English for ease of language) of the trade and use of Porcelain,Tobacco, Maps/Printing, Fur, OR Silver and their impact on “the global world” of the seventeenth century as shownin specific chapters of Timothy Brook’s Vermeer’s Hat (as below). Your essay should include discussion of globalrelations between Western Europe and one other region.Each essay should use1. McKay et. al. textbook (evidence and at least one quote)2. Brook’s Hat (several quotes). 3. Four contemporary (pre-1700) illustrations, includinga. One pre-1700 map4. One pre-1700 engraving (e.g. from a book; map/printing group can replace with another map)a. One pre-1700 painting5. One contemporary (from EEBO) travel book or description (about 15 pp; if less use two)The European painting of the period, etc. should relate to the region(s) and/or subject covered in your Brook, Hatchapter.
