Making a Tree using the Making a Tree using the Magic bevelMagic bevelByBrian HowlandGetting Started• First we must load the plugin Magic Bevel from the lightwave file. • Go to load plugins. It is in the lightwavefile in the C drive. Go to plugins-model-magic bevel.• Next create a disc. It doesn’t matter on the size, whatever you want. Extend it so that is a semi long cylinder. Press enter. • Then Create another disc a little smaller than the previous one on a different layer but don’t extend it. Press enter. It should look like a flat disc. On top of the cylinder.• Next, rotate the disc so it is about at a 45 degree angle. • Then select the Magic Bevel tool under the multiply tab and in the Extend tools.• Select the disc with the Magic Bevel tool. Then click the (n) to bring up the numeric options box. All the default settings are fine but change the scale to about 92%. This changes how much it scales the bevel when you extend it. Close the box • With the tool select click the disc. Then drag it out to make the branch design. Move the mouse around to make it curve When creating the branch drag the tool using the “back” or “Side” view.• Repeat the step for creating a disc and make it on a new layer. Rotate it again so it is about 45 degrees. Change the position of the disc so it faces the opposite direction of the other one. • Use the Magic Bevel once again.• Repeat these steps for making branches and make as many as you want and change the position on some. Add new and smaller discs on branches already made. Each time you make a new branch with a disc, make it on a new layer.• Once you’ve made a few branches you can rotate some of them so the tree looks 3-D and not flat. The SecretThe Secret• An easy way to create more branches without having to make each individual one is to use the right bracket ( ] ) button. This selects an entire branch.• Select all your layers to they are all active.• Then Select a few polygons on a branch. Press the ( ] ) button to select the whole branch. • Then hold shift and go to a new branch and select a few polygons. Use the ( ] ) button again to select that branch it should look like this.• Press the copy button and paste them on a new layer. Rotate these new branches to a different position. It should look like thisÆ• Now Repeat all the steps for making a branch and changing the position to make your tree larger and have more branches.• After copying and pasting many branches and creating more branches on others you can get something like this.Æ• You can add a wood texture to the object to see what it would look likeAlmost ThereFinal ResultFinal
