Exercise 13: Pasting across applications to create reportsFILES FOR THIS EXERCISE IN 475 LAB AFS spaceEX13.DOC - WORD file with these instructions & part of reportEX13.XLS - EXCEL file with data for figures or tablesCLIPART.JPG - A clipart picture of runnerComplete a one page of the analysis of Lansing Riverfront Trail Use using WORD. Your task is to write upa brief summary of the results relative to temporal patterns of use and the kinds of activities on the trail. The first page of the write up is completed for you below (Introduction, objectives, methods) . Your assignment is to:a. Insert a clipart figure near top of first page. You may find one on web (try Dr. Mahoney's picture on course Home page) or use one provided in course AFS space (clipart.jpg). Best approach is to:1. First insert a textbox (insert, textbox, draw box where you want it)2. Format text box to wrap around text (right clck border of box, choose wrapping format)3. Insert figure into text box (click inside textbox, then choose insert, Picture, From File, and pointto clipart.jpg file in the course AFS space).b. Complete the two results sections at end covering temporal distribution of use and activities on the trail. These sections should include a short text (one paragraph will do) summarizing the highlights of results and one figure and one table displaying the information in detail. The data for figures and tables are in an Excel file (EX13.XLS). You should select what information given here should be presented and format the table/figure appropriately. You should do some simple calculations on spreadsheet to convert figures to percents or averages that apply to population vs just the sample counts. Number and title Figures and Tables and refer to them in text by number (see below). You can insert tables directly in WORD (Table, Insert) or you can complete them in Excel and format them there (I recommend this) and copy and paste them into word (select cells you want inExcel, choose copy, switch to word, position cursor where you want it and choose paste. You mayneed to do a few formatting fixes in WORD after pasting. Figures must be created first in Excel. Then select figure, choose copy, switch to word and choose paste. I think you will find it easiest to first create a text box in WORD as above, format it and then paste the figure from Excel into the text box.You must write a short summary to accompany the tables and figures. Avoid "see Table 1" or "Figure 2 shows" - prefered style is to say something about information in the table or figure (the most important points) and reference the table or figure at end of sentence in parentheses, e.g. CORRECT: " Half of the trail users were women (Table 1)."WEAK: "Table 1 shows gender distribution" or "As we can see from Table 1, half of users were women".DELETE THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND PRINT THE TWO PAGE REPORT WHEN FINISHEDLansing Riverfront Trail Use, October 1996INTRODUCTION. The purpose of this study is to measure use of the Lansing Riverfront Trail. Using systematic observation during randomly chosen time periods, trail use is estimated for the month of October from the eastern terminus of the trail near Kalamazoo St. through the Aurelius Road access point. Observations and analysis were carried out by students in Dr. Stynes' PRR 475 class fall semester of 1996. The Lansing Riverfront trail is a 7 mile paved trail following the Red Cedar and Grand Rivers through the city of Lansing. Constructed over the past several years, the trail now extends from Kalamazoo Street at the eastern boundary of Lansing to beyond the Dodge-Turner Mansion on the north side of town. The trail connects a number of major parks and attractions including Potter Park, Riverfront Park, the Lansing Convention Center, The Fish ladder, Impressions Five Museum, and the Dodge Turner mansion. OBJECTIVES.1. Estimate the amount of use on trail east of Potter Park during October 1995.2. Describe temporal and spatial patterns of use.3. Estimate use by user characteristics and type of use (activity).METHODS. Population and Sampling Plan . All persons using the eastern sections of the trail during October, 1996 are included in the population of users. Use was recorded only for daylight hours, defined asa 12 hour period from 7:30 am to 7:30 PM . There are 372 daylight hours in October (31 days *12 daylight hours per day) . The sample was stratified to obtain good representation of weekend & weekday time periods, as well as morning, early afternoon and late afternoon time periods. Measurement. Observers stationed themselves at the access point with a good view of both the trail and parking areas. Using an observation form, observers recorded each trail user passing the observation point. For each user the activity type (walk, jog, bike, rollerblade) and direction of travel (east, west) was recorded along with whether the user was entering the trail, exiting, or passing through. The mode of trail access (car, bicycle or on foot) was recorded for those entering or exiting the trail at the observation point. Each visitor's age group, race (white or non-white) and gender were also observed. At the start and end of the observation period, the time, temperature, and weather conditions were recorded, along with the number of vehicles in the parking area. RESULTSTemporal Patterns of
