Selective-Elective ’09/10 New Jersey Dental School Selective-Elective Program COURSE#: REST9913 [X] SELECTIVE [ ] ELECTIVE TRIMESTER: SPRING DEPARTMENT: Restorative Dentistry COURSE TITLE: Bleaching Modalities for Vital Teeth MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS COURSE: To introduce and educate the student to the various modalities of vital tooth bleaching. COURSE CONTENT: A. In office bleaching with or without light activation B. At home dentist prescribed bleaching with trays fabricated by the treating practitioner C. Internet bleaching kits (eg, boil & bite trays) D. Tooth whitening toothpastes E. Over the counter products (Crest White Strips, etc, etc.) F. Hands on (clinical fabrication of trays) G. Company modalities (Dentsply/Ultradent/DenMat) OBJECTIVES OF COURSE: The primary objective of the course is for the student to become competent and knowledgeable in the various modalities of vital tooth bleaching procedures available so that an appropriate modality can be selected according to the individual patient needs. EVALUATION OF STUDENTS: Attendance and completion of laboratory procedures as required by the course. These requirements will be explicitly set forth to the students on the first day of the course. Dr. Nack, as the Course Director, will track and verify the student’s compliance with these requirements and credit for the course will be solely based on the satisfaction of these parameters by the students.
