CurtisModern Architecture Kenneth FramptonCourse Objectives: Develop an understanding and become conversant in thehistory and sources of modern architecture. The time frame begins in the 19thCentury and continues through present day. The root of architectural theory isderived from the history of the art. As such, a thorough understanding ofhistory is the cornerstone to understanding and working with architecturaltheory.Major topics to be covered: World architecture of the 20th century from19th Century through 2001. Various periods of architecture will be covered:Brutalism the International Style, Modernism and Post Modernism. In addition,architects will be presented that include: Mies van der Rohe, Frank LloydWright, LeCorbusier, Venturi, LM. Pei, Piano and Rogers, Kahn, Botta, Foster,Eisenman, Koolhaas and others. In addition, various movements, sub-periodsand personalities will be discussed.Calendar/Topics: The class will receive visual information (slidesand projections), along with lecture and discussion.
