PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PLANName: SAMPLE 3Building and Assignment: Standard/Criterion: Standard 1: Effective Teaching(Criterion (h): Informing, involving, and collaborating with parents and families as partners in the educational processStep 1 - Needs Assessment and Goal SelectionA. Professional Growth Area of Focus Your self-assessment using the Descriptions of Practice, discussions with your Professional Growth Team, and the review of school/district plans will provide guidance on a specific area for growth within the selected criterion. Through self-assessment of teaching practice during my fall 2008 student-teaching experience, I recognized an area of improvement with standard 1(h). As a result of reflection regarding my student-teaching practices, I failed to identify any evidence which demonstrated my informing, involving, and collaborating with parents and families as partners in the educational process. B. RationaleWhat will your students be able to do as a result of your professional growth that they are not now able to do?During my ten weeks of student teaching, I did not inform, involve, or collaborate with parents as families as partners in the educational process. As a result, it is my responsibility as a professional educator to build a repertoire of knowledge andskills to support my ability to engage parents and families as partners in the educational process. As a result of strengthening my ability to meaningfully engage parents and families, I hope to create a positive impact on student learning.Step 2 - New LearningBased on your rationale, what new skills and knowledge (grounded in research) will you need to build your capacity in this area?
