Edition2 Grading2.1 Percentage Breakdown(1) Homework, Attendance, Participation: 20%(2) Quizzes (Best 4 of 5): 25%(3) Mid-Term Exam: 25%(4) Final Exam: 30%2.2 Explanation of Components(1) You will receive homework assignments for almost every class. (Seeschedule of assignments, below.) Sometimes the assignment will be problemsfrom the text, and other times there may be a sheet of problems that I willprepare. The homework will generally not be graded as carefully as theexams or quizzes. With the homework, I am mostly concerned with youactually attempting to work through the problems. Credit for homeworkwill be given essentially for simply turning in a completed assignment.1Phil 102, Fox, Summer 2005 2Make sure that each assignment you turn in has both your name andthe assignment/class number clearly labeled. Please staple any multiple-paged assignment, and do please try to write legibly. You shouldtry to keep any absences to a minimum. Note that on certain days, therewill be quizzes or exams. Remember that attendance is a part of the gradefor this component.(2) The first four of the quizzes will likely take about 45 minutes tocomplete. A main goal of the quizzes is simply to make sure that you arekeeping up with the work. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped fromthe quiz average component. Note that homework problems may appear onquizzes. Finally, note that all quizzes must be completed. The last quiz willbe comprised of problems from a homework assignment. More informationwill be given later.(3 & 4) Both exams will be cumulative. Units 1–6 and 21 will be cov-ered on the Mid-Term Exam. Units 1–14, 21, and 23 will be covered onthe Final Exam. Both exams will be closed book. The final exam will begiven as scheduled, in the exam period. More information on each examwill be given. (Note that the Mid-Term Exam and the Final Exam must becompleted in order to be able to receive a passing grade for the course.)3 General InformationAttendance is especially important in a summer course. As our paceneeds to be steady, missing even one class can mean missing importantinformation that may not be covered again. If you should happen to be ill,be sure to get in touch with me (or someone else in the class) to find outwhat you missed. Check the course website regularly as well. Please make sure your cell phones, pagers, etc. are turned off beforeclass. (This is simply common courtesy: you should do this for every course!)All students should behave appropriately. This includes (but is not lim-ited to) arriving at class on time, respecting others’ opinions, and not talkingduring class. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. All students are also expected to behave in accordance with all reg-ulations pertaining to academic honesty. Any student who engages inacademic dishonesty shall have his or her case referred to the Office of Stu-dent Judicial Affairs.Phil 102, Fox, Summer 2005 34 Schedule of Assignments• Homework assignments listed are to be completed for the next class session.Class Date Written Assignment1 5/31 Read Units 1, 2 p. 17 # 1; pp. 28–9 # 1,22 6/2 Read Units 21, 3 p. 367 # 1–10; pp. 45–6 #1–33 6/7 Read Units 4, 5 pp. 64–5 #3, 4Quiz today (U 1–3, 21)4 6/9 Read Handout Sheet; pp. 83–4 # 1–35 6/14 Read Unit 6 SheetQuiz today (U 4,5)6 6/16 Review Units 4–6 pp. 98-100 #1–5 a-d of ea.7 6/21 Read Unit 7 Study!Quiz today (U 6)8 6/23 Midterm today! pp. 128–35 #1, 3, 4, 69 6/28 Read Unit 8 pp. 156-161 # 1, 3, 510 6/30 Read Unit 9 pp. 183-5 #1–4; #6 b,c11 7/5 Read Unit 23 p. 378 #1–3Quiz today (U 7–9)12 7/7 Read Units 10, 11 p. 196 #2; pp. 208-9 # 1,3,413 7/12 Read Unit 12 p. 231 #3; #5, 6, 7 a-f of ea.14 7/14 Read Units 13, 14 pp. 244-5 #2, 3, 4 a-f of ea.p. 253 #3 a-f of ea.15 7/19 Review Study!7/21-22 FINAL EXAM(as scheduled in
