>From: <[email protected]>>To: <[email protected]>>Subject: Journal Entry 1>Date: Thu, 6 Sep 2001 09:09:07 -0700>>"Five Steps to Leading a Team Effectively">>Over the years, the leadership role has changed to be more productive. In>the article by Ford Motor Company, a company in the past would have one>head guy. He/she would maybe not know what is going on in the company or>protected in a way to not know their employee's. In today's day in age,>for a company to be great in leadership and be on top, collaboration,>trust, and sharing all views is a virtue for a company to strive forward.>I could relate to this in sports from the day I started playing soccer>till right now in college soccer. There are similarity's but the role of>a leader has changed to develop team leadership. When I was younger, a>captain or best player on the team made the calls and ran the show. Then>I started to grow up and in high school players and coaches started to>collaborate together to get everyone on the same page. Also, as I got>older I noticed that I was playing with better and better players and each>one had a role to play on the team, not just the best player. Now as I'm>a college soccer player and see players all over the world, leadership on>a team has changed dramatically. Typically you have a captain and>co-captain but those are voted on within the team. Players look for a>captain they could talk to, trust, respect, value, work hard, and will>support them. If you want to be a great team, one or two players will not>make a successful team. Many roles form together to create an outstanding>team. On the Men's MSU soccer team, we have players that have separate>roles but pull together to be one. One the field, the team shows>leadership as a whole. Even from the bench will show that, cheering and>pumping up their teammates or going to replace a starter to have them>rest. Everyone on the team has their role, whether to set a play up, kick>a free kick, or communicate to the other teammates of what to do. The>soccer team like a business, needs to focus on leadership as a whole.>Usually a couple people will emerge as a role of a leader but in return,>the leader needs to value their peers. Listening to others idea's and>taking in consideration of everything around will bring a team together.>There can be many leaders on a team just as long they can work together.>I see it as more leaders, the better. I do not believe in just one leader>but many. It works as a family and everyone has their roles to contribute>because some are better at ones then the other.>I felt this article was very correct in analyzing how leadership has>changed and what needs to be done to be successful. I feel the most>important keys to getting a group of people working as a team is>listening, encouraging, compromising, communication, and giving people the>sense of accomplishment that they can do it. People should strive to>lead.>Leadership has been a big part of my life since I can remember and was>taught about how to lead and what a leader does. This article clearly>states what a leader should do and how to develop a strong leadership>among others.Like in the class, I'm learning more and more. I believe a>leadership is staight forward but in a way its not the same all the time.>A learder must know how to change and adopt to what works. The samething>does not apply for everyone. Groups have to change and bring it together.>Just from the articles I just read, I will bring it to life and maybe>change old idea's to try them out. A leader learns everyday and leads by>example.>>I like how we are working together in groups and taking what we read and>learn and can apply it to the groups we are working in.>>Adam Sabin>A27454182>EAD
