METBD 050Placing Cell Values in a TextBoxSome Excel worksheets contain figures, drawn using the standard drawing tool, to illustrate the problem being solved with the worksheet. In this case, it is really slick to display input parameters or results in these figures and charts. The textbox value will change each time the cell value changes if the simple method discussed below is followed. To place a value from a cell into a textbox, perform the following steps:1. Draw a textbox in the location desired. Be sure it is long enough to accommodate changes in the data.2. Format the textbox as desired. It is common to turn off the border line around the textbox. Sometimes, the fill is turned off as well. To format the object, right-click on the textbox and select “Format Text Box”.3. To place the value of a cell into the textbox:a. Select the textboxb. In the FORMULA BAR at the top of the worksheet, type an equal sign followed by the cell address of the cell containing the information to be displayed in the textbox.c. Press enter. The data should appear in the textbox. d. If you type the equal sign and cell address in the textbox, you will only get whatever you type. The textbox is usually formatted without border lines for a neater appearance.FORMULA BARSee “Creating a Text String in Excel” for the method of creating these text strings.Change the input values for Force and Theta and the values in the textboxes will update appropriately.Place Values in a Textbox on a Chart:Datapoint labels and titles on a chart are all placed in textboxes automatically. Values from cells can also be displayed in these textboxes. This method works really well if the user is able to change the units of the worksheet. Charts can be built to accommodate this change in units in the title. Click on the data point whose label you want to display. Right-click on the data point and select Format Data POINT. If it doesn’t say data point, you have them all selected. Try it again.In the data labels tab, select Series Name to be displayed, then OK. Click in the textbox containing the label and highlight all of the text.In the Formula Bar, type the equal sign followed by the cell address for the cell containing the information to be displayed.This method works for the titles too.Concatenated text strings generated to be placed in the
