University of Pittsburgh Economics 2730Spring 2008 Prof. John DuffySeminar in Experimental EconomicsCourse Description: This seminar provides students with the opportunity to learn about curren tresearc h from a number of differen t speak ers. The seminar will feature speakers from outside thedepartment as well as speakers from within the department. Graduate students engaged in researc hin experimental economics are especially encouraged to present their research in this seminar.Requirements: Students may sign up to tak e the seminar course for satisfactory/not satisfactory(S/N) grading (course credit only), or for a letter grade. A studen t who signs up to take the coursefor course credit only (S/N grade) is required to attend all meetings of the seminar. Additionally,the student must lead an advance discussion of at least one of the papers presented by a seminarspeaker. (Details on these advance discussion meetings will be arranged in accordance with theseminar schedule). A student who signs up to take the course for a letter grade will also attendall meetings and must present his or her own research paper in the seminar. Student presentersshould be working under the supervision of one or more facult y members.Schedule and Discussion Meetings: The seminar is scheduled to meet Fridays from 12-1:30pmin 4716 W.W. Posvar Hall. However, it is not always possible to adhere to this time and place forour meetings, so you should check the weekly seminar calendar available on-line at:http://gsiaserver1.gsia.cmu.edu/Seminars/seminar.aspfor meeting times and places. A preliminary schedule of seminar presenters is given on the nextpage, and is subject to change. Additions to this schedule may also be made. Suggestions arewelcome.Prior to visits by outside speakers, w e will meet to discuss the paper the speaker will present.Arrangements will be made via email; if you are enrolled/interested in the seminar, please makesure I have your email address (you can send it to me at jduff[email protected]). We will typically meeton Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:00pm just prior to a Friday seminar to go over the paper thatwill be presented (room to be determined). The discussion will be led by a student who is takingthe seminar for course credit.Participation: The success of this seminar depends on the participation of all who are involved.Your ACTIVE participation will make the seminar most useful to yourself as well as to the speakerswho take the time to come here.In addition to attending the seminar, students are strongly encouraged to sign up to meet face-to-face with each speaker.
