COURSE SYLLABUS OUTLINECOURSE SYLLABUS OUTLINEDepartment: Educational Studies, Leadership and CounselingCourse Number: GUI 697 Credit Hours: 3 semester hours I. Title: Organization and Administration of Personnel Services II. Catalog Description:The selection, organization and implementation of personnel services. Analysis of programs, staffing and relationships of programs will be emphasized. III. Purpose:The purpose of this course is to help the practitioner and future counselor or human service worker to be better able to organize and administer services by focusing on consulting processes and consulting skills, and program development and evaluation. Particular emphasis is placed on KERA Goals and Experienced Counselor Standards. Consequently, this course is designed to help practitioners assume leadership roles within their work settings regarding the delivery of services which will meet the needs of the population which is served. Because of the emphasis on leadership roles and functions, learning outcomes of this course will include many hours on applications. IV. Course Objectives: A. Knowledge Base1. Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of personnel services in general and in participants' specific setting.(themes 2 & 14)2. Outline briefly each of the seven chapters from the text onconsulting. (25 points)2. "Personal reaction" This reaction should deal with how youcan relate the material to your present work setting or how you can use the material in a future setting. B. Identify specific area or problem 1. Design a needs assessment - design a needs assessment that you could use to collect relevant data pertaining to problem area. (25 points)2. Conduct your needs assessment (25 points)3. Design a "graphic" representation of your needs assessment project, "say it" in model form. Make it easy to identify with and understand. (15 points)4. Present your problem area project to the class. (10 points).5. Present your change project to some other body, person, principal, teacher (10 points).C. Formal paper - This paper should put all these aspects of your project together. To include: (100 points)a. problem identification - review of literatureb. needs assessment - background information, how you designed it, validity, how you'd report data using the datac. using the data 1) designing change or implementation project 2) what obstacles would have to be overcome? How to handle resistance d. evaluation and review 1) how will you process your data based on program's effectivenessD. Attendance Policy:This course adheres to the policy published in the MSU Graduate Bulletin. XI. Academic Honesty Policy:Cheating, plagiarism (submitting another person’s material as one’s own), or doing work for another person which will receive academic credit are all impermissible. This includes the use of unauthorized books, notebooks or other sources in order to secure or give help during an examination, the unauthorized copying of examinations, assignments, reports, or term papers or the presentation or unacknowledged material asif it were the student’s own work. Disciplinary action may be taken beyond the academic discipline administered by the faculty member who teaches the course in which the cheating took place. XII.
