PSYC 5389 001 NEUROANATOMY Summer 2010 MoTuWeTh 1 00PM 3 00PM LS 428 Instructor Linda I Perrotti Ph D LS 511 E mail Perrotti uta edu Office hours Monday 12 00PM 1 00PM Course Description This course will provide a comprehensive overview of the anatomy of the brain from a systems perspective Additionally the course will provide an introduction to the major neurological and psychiatric disorders with known brain pathology This course will use a peer facilitated lecture format As the faculty instructor during the first week I will cover the basics gross neuroanatomy development cells and transmitters Then each graduate student will select a systems level topic from the list provided to present to the group in the remaining classes Course Objectives 1 The student will be able to locate and identify major brain structures on brain atlas plates MRI CAT and PET scans 2 The student will understand and appropriately use neuro medical terminology 3 The student will have an understanding of neural control of sensory systems and the related neuroanatomical structures 4 The student will have an understanding of neural control of motor systems and the related neuroanatomical structures 5 The student will have an understanding of neural control of integrative systems i e learning memory endocrine and the related neuroanatomical structures Required Textbook A Textbook of Neuroanatomy Maria A Patestas Leslie P Gartner 2006 Blackwell Publishing ISBN 978 1 4051 0340 4 Student Evaluation Course grade will be based on one comprehensive final exam student directed lecture and submission of exam questions from the content of the student directed lecture Examination There will be one comprehensive final examination The exam will be worth 50 of the final grade Make up examinations will be given only for university approved absences and the makeup examination must be taken within five days of that exam date The format for exams may be short answer or essay questions A student arriving late
