Project 0DUE: 6pm Thursday, September 4th, 2008 Late Policy: Projects are always due at the start of class on the assigneddue date. All late assignments (up to start of our next class period) will beassessed a 25% reduction in points. After the start of this next class period, noprojects will be accepted for credit. However, all projects must be completed toearn a passing grade in this course. This is the late policy for this entire courseunless changed for the entire class.NetBeans 6.1. While you may select any IDE you wish to develop yourapplications in this course, I will grade them using NetBeans 6.1. Download andinstallation instructions are found elsewhere on this web page. NetBeans 6.1 is a very powerful IDE that will facilitate our learning this semester.I recommend that you download and use this IDE. For Project0, an introductory project aimed at providing familiarity with theNetBeans and turn in procedure, twenty points will be given. Most assignmentswill be worth many more points.Procedure. The NetBeans Tutorial available as a link on my web pageprovides the very detailed procedure required for Project0. This tutorial alsoprovides you with the turn in process that you will be using to submit yourprograms for grading. As you may note, you will be developing an application using NetBeans. Eachof you should create a folder on your desktop entitled COP3540. Within thisfolder, you will create subfolders – one for each project in this course. Thesefolders will be linked to NetBeans so that all source files, Javadoc, etc. will befound in a specific project folder within your COP3540 folder. You will zip the resulting project folder (NOT the entire COP3540 folder, please) for this project from your desktop and send it to me via the Digital Dropbox under Blackboard.I will unzip your folder and import your application for compilation andexecution. I will also look at other artifacts that might be components in yourzipped folder sent to me as required, such as UML renderings.I assume that you are familiar with the Windows environment and are conversantwith SSH for whatever your needs might be. Your projects will always be in a folder named projectiyouruserid. (Forexample, my first project might be found in subfolder project0broggio within myCOP3540 folder.) Other folders that will appear in the COP3540 folder will beproject1youruserid, project2youruserid, etc. ‘youruserid’ should not be your n-number; rather use your name as in project4broggio, okay? There are many other turn-in approaches and many other IDEs to supportinstruction in this course. Most of these are really quite good. NetBeans ismerely a matter of choice. I have found it to be very easy to use and verypowerful. Students also like it a lot. Again, the details of Project0 are found in the NetBeans Tutorial. Essentially youare taking an existing program and inserting it into the NetBeans IDE, compilingand running and submitting to me. See the tutorial. All subsequent project descriptions will occur as links in my web page underProject i Description. As a personal note, this is one of the most important courses you will take. But itwill require an immense commitment of time. The secret to success is to startthis and ALL assignments immediately, if not sooner. The sure way to disaster isto wait too long.Good luck and have
