OBJECTIVES:- Students, when participating in a team process, will apply principles of problem solving.- Students, when participating in a team process, will learn to contribute to the team's climate.- Students, when communicating in teams, will identify indicators of team deterioration.- Students, when interacting in teams, will recognize potential difficulties in the communication process.- Students, when participating in team activities, will demonstrate the ability to manage interpersonal conflict.- Students, when observing a team, will be able to systematically observe the team's process.- Students, when observing a team, will be able to systematically report on the team's process.- Students, when assigned a problem, will solve it via computer networking.- Students, when assigned a service learning opportunity, will identify the similarities between their community involvement and team principles learned in class.- Students, when assigned a service learning opportunity, will identify the differences between their community involvement and team principles learned in class.GRADING Grade Weighting Midterm Examination 20% Final Examination 15% LGD Practicum (Assignment #1) 20% Team Observation (Assignment #2) 20% Service Learning (Assignment #3) 15% Attendance, Punctuality 10% ASSIGNMENTS:- Assignment #1. LGD Practicum. An in-class team problem solving effort; out-of-class research required. - Assignment #2. In-class Team Observation. Systematic observation of an in-class problem-solving team; data collection, analysis and symposium required.- Assignment #3. Service Learning. For this assignment, you are required to contribute at least 20 hours in a community-based not-for-profit organization working as part of a team. The assignment will conclude with six-to-eight page written report plus a non-graded oral presentation to the class. POLICIES:Attire for In-class Team Assignments: Since nonverbal symbols are important in establishing and maintaining one's credibility, for all graded in-class team occasions participants must wear professional attire.Make-Up Work: Work submitted after its stated deadline will be reduced one letter grade.Attendance: As participation in activities facilitates learning, attendance is crucial to the successful conduct of this course. Your attendance (and active participation) is expected. A weighted attendance score is computed intothe final grade. Each set of three times being late is counted as one absence. Note: Any student absent one-third of the classes can receive no higher than grade of D.Electronic Devices: All cell phones and pagers must be switched off during class time.Student Demeanor: It is expected that each student will contribute to the learning environment. Students acting otherwise will be addressed individually. Personal in-class sidebar conversations communicate a lack of focus and should not occur.Plagiarism: The use of another's efforts claimed as one's own is considered plagiarism. It is expected that each student will generate all work for which he/she claims authorship. Of course, ideas of others may be used when credit is given. Cases of plagiarism will constitute dismissal from the course with grade of F (also see "AcademicDishonesty" in the University catalog).Writing: CSUF faculty put a premium on a student's ability to write effectively. It is also essential for success in professional life.
