COHORT STUDENTS  Register through College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE). Dr. Ostergren will be send registration codes and CCPE form mid-to-late summer for Fall registration. You need to be registered by the first day of class.  CSULB Student ID Card  Go to the ID Card Services Office (Southwest end of The University Bookstore building)  Bring proof of registration; a completed ID card application; and a completed agreement form.  CSULB Email  Creating an Account – After you have a CSULB student identification number, you may create your email account online at this web site: http://www.csulb.edu/namemaster/.  Parking  In order to park on the CSULB campus, a valid parking permit is required. To obtain your parking permit, you may purchase them online at http://parking.csulb.edu.M.A. Program Elements Course Load Courses Clinics Internship Thesis or Comprehensive ExaminationCOURSE LOAD • Nine (9) units of graduate coursework per semester is the normal academic load for a full-time graduate student. – If you wish to exceed this limit, discuss this with the Graduate Advisor (Dr. Ostergren) prior to registration – Under no circumstances should full-time graduate students exceed twelve (12) units per semester. – Students who are employed full-time are advised not to exceed six (6) units per semester.COURSES • CD 696 - Research Methods Seminars: • CD 662 – Seminar in School Age Language Disorders: Grades 1 through High School • CD 663 – Seminar in Preschool Language Disorders: 0-5 Years • CD 667 – Autism Seminar • CD 665 - Language Disorders in Adults • CD 666 – Motor Speech, Fluency and Swallowing Disorders • CD661 – Traumatic Brain Injury Across the Lifespan ____ Note: The above seminars cover advanced topics in each area. If you feel unprepared for advanced material in a given area, please see the instructor of the seminar to discuss how best to prepare for the seminar and/or if an undergraduate course is recommended.CLINICS Clinics:  CD 669A - Phonological Disorders  CD 669C - Language Disordered Children  CD 669B – Autism Clinic  CD 669F - Fluency/Motor Speech Disorders  CD 699J - Language Disordered Adults  CD 669L - Linguistically Different Clinic ___ Note: Seminars are generally pre-requisite to clinical practice. However, in some cases clinics can be taken as a co-requisite to the seminar. This decision is based solely at the discretion of the faculty member responsible for the seminar and the clinic and the Graduate Advisor.CLINIC ENROLLMENT • Traditional MA Students – Enrollment in ALL on-campus clinics is granted only after application – Clinic applications are due by the 4th Monday of the semester prior to clinic enrollment. • Clinic Applications on-line at http://www.csulb.edu/colleges/chhs/departments/communicative-disorders/clinic-supervisors/ – Applications must be reviewed and signed by your Advisor. • You must schedule an appointment with your Advisor to review this application – Clinic assignments for the following semester will be posted on the bulletin board outside the clinic office. • Once you are assigned to a clinic you will be granted permission to register • Once you attend and are assigned a client, you must remain enrolled in this clinic. Student will not be granted permission to withdraw from a clinic, without serious and compelling reasons and approval of the Department Chair. • Special Cohort MA Students – You will be assigned a clinic. No application required. – You will be notified the semester prior of your clinic assignment days/times and registration code.INTERNSHIPS • CD 670 - Internship in Speech-Language Pathology (Hospital Based Setting) – CD 670 is only available for Traditional MA students. Special Cohort MA students must complete an internship in a public school. – Hospital internships are full-time, full semester internships ONLY. -or- • CD 686A - Student Teaching in Speech Pathology (Public School Setting) – CD686A is required for a credential for work in a public school in CA – School internships are either part-time (3 days per week) for 14 weeks or full-time (5 days per week) for 10 weeks.INTERNSHIP: RULES/REGULATIONS • Enrollment in CD 670 and CD686A is granted by Department consent, given Faculty recommendation AND the following requirements: – CD670: • Completion with a grade of B or higher all graduate seminars for the Master's degree in CD and all graduate clinics applicable to specific field placement (as determined by Instructor), and Department consent. – CD686A: • Passing of the CBEST, completion with a grade of B or higher all graduate seminars and all but one graduate clinic required for the Master's degree in CD, and Department consent • Simultaneous enrollment in both internships is NOT possible. • Summer internships are NOT available for either CD686A or CD670. • PAID INTERNSHIPS ARE NOT ALLOWED. • For questions regarding internship options contact: – Traditional Students: Michelle Powers-Lundvall - CD 686A or Dr. McMicken – CD 670 – Cohort Students: Dr. OstergrenTHESIS –or- COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION • CD 698 – Thesis (4 units)* -or- • CD 695 - Comprehensive Examination* AND 2 elective units (CD575 Recommended) *See Graduate Handbook for more details about Comprehensive Examinations
