HIST 106 1nd Edition Lecture 11 Outline of Last Lecture I Factors Leading to WWI Outline of Current Lecture I II III WWI The Great Russian Revolution Treaty of Versailles Current Lecture Review of last Lecture WWI starts in 1914 Shlieffen Plan got locked up in Belgian and didn t work 1914 Battle of Lodz o German army lost 60 000 men o Russians lost 95 000 men Germans try to break through with poison gas but unsuccessful US is neutral but selling guns to both sides o US also lent money to all allies 1916 things start to fall apart o The Russians start blaming Alexandra for everything because she is German she was not doing anything wrong o Nicholas II takes control of troops and now every Russian soldier that dies is on his back o The population is starting to turn against the war 1917 Woodrow Wilson goes before congress and demands declaration of war o Does it b c Russia is backing out of war o If Russia backs out German troops will turn from East side and focus on West side and close the trap which will end the war These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor s lecture GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes not as a substitute The Great Russian Revolution of 1917 NI Lenin o Goes to a socialist conference and gives speech saying if he were in charge of Russian he would rush out of war o Train takes him to Russia and he start to take over Russia o He sends orders to troops He tells them to shoot their officers and come home o Oct 1917 Lenin confronts Kerensky and says we have taken over Russia Kerensky left Russia and came to US o Lenin is now in charge 1918 Germans troops are rushing from East side to the West to put pressure on the trap US troops are pouring into France o led by John Pershing Pershing makes decision not to go into Germany o bad decision o Allowed the Nazi s to form A flu Influenza brought by US troops sweeps across Europe and kills more people than the war itself US tips the balance When Nazi s take over they first start building roads o roads west to east for military purposes o to make up for what they lost in the war Germany o Kaiser Williams o needs to abdicate o no one likes him o military forces him to leave o goes with an obscene amount of money to Holland Dolchstoss Pershing stab in the back The end of the war is November 11 1918 Germans lost the war by 6 weeks o 11 11 11 11 Versailles o meet for peace treaty o Orlando from Italy wants territory o Lloyd George from England wants open trade agreements o Woodrow Wilson wants democracy want the world safe w democracy o Clemenconn from France he writes up the treaty He give Woodrow Wilson a democracy Call it the Weimar Republican o City of Weimar city of intellectuals The Treaty 1 The German army has been reduced to 100 000 men 2 Reduce Germany down to 6 ships 3 Germans have to pay 32 billion gold dollars 4 Sign an agreement saying they were responsible for the entire war ect The War is over Germans lost 17 of male population Austria lost 15 male population o families working conditions everything changes France lost 24 male population Belgian lost 34 of male population Russia lost 13 mail population Woodrow Wilson s best creation o purest democracy is the Western War Wilson came back with Versailles agreement and Congress did not like it o voted it down several times o Wilson starts giving speeches on behalf of the Versailles has a stroke during a speech o Europeans are cut loose and are on their own Germans get money by printing more and more o They experience hyperinflation o The middle class loses and eventually is wiping out
