CO-REREQUISITES: ME 435 INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Kevin R. Anderson Associate Professor Mechanical Engineering Department California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Office 17-2631 (909) 869-2687 [email protected] www.csupomona.edu/~kranderson1 OFFICE HOURS: See website for latest office hours TEXTBOOK: “ME 435L Laboratory Manual”, Mechanical Engineering Dept. Revised Fall 2001 by Dr. K.R. Anderson GRADING: Mini Labs 30% (4 X 7.5% each) Long Labs 30% (3 X 10% each) Speech 15% Worksheets 10% (2 X 5% Each) Lab Final 15% MINI LABS: Data is collected, synthesized and presented w/in the assigned lab module These labs usually terminate with the generation of an EXCEL plot of the data gathered and a short 5-10 minute discussion with the instructor regarding the interpretation and significance of the findings LONG LABS: Data is collected w/in 3 hour lab module. Groups submit a "GROUP REPORT" per standard CPP ME Dept Memo format 1 week after day of data collection. No late Long write-ups will be accepted (No exceptions, no excuses) e.g. If a member of the group has to go out of town that week, the remaining group member(s) must submit the report irregardless of that person's absence (This is how it works in commercial industry). Each member of the group will be awarded the grade earned by the effort put forth in the "GROUP REPORT" Groups are free to select 3 out of the 4 long labs to write up. See your instructor to examine representative examples of A versus F reports, this will allow you to gain perspective on what is expected of you on the lab reports prior to submission for critical review. Rewrites must me submitted w/in 1 week after the group's receipt of the red-lines. The grade of the original submission and the rewrite will be averaged for the final Long write-up score, e.g. first submission = F, rewrite = A, score = C SPEECH: The remaining long lab will be presented to the body of the ME 435L as a 20 minute oral presentation at the end of the quarter. Groups have the luxury of deciding which long lab will be presented in the oral report. Powerpoint projector will be provided LAB FINAL: The Lab Final will consist of a T/F, Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blanks exercise and also a hands-on lab practice, e.g. wiring up a circuit. The questions on the Lab Final will be directly related to the collection/synthesis/reporting of the various lab experiences performed during the quarter. Lab Final grades are per individual i.e. each person enrolled in the class must take the final, no group efforts on the lab final WORKSHEETS: Worksheets related to various aspects of the Design and Theory of Mechanical Measurements will be administered at indicated times shown in the master lab schedule. Worksheets are a group effort and are due as indicated on the assignment sheet.. No late worksheets will be accepted DRY-LABS: In the event that lab equipment is not operating, the groups will be given a set of raw data which is representative of the lab under repair. The group will then proceed with any appropriate data analysis/synthesis/reduction PLAGIARISM: Use of "Old Lab Reports" obtained from previous ME 435L sessions will not be tolerated. Evidence of such misappropriation of other people's work is viewed as an act of plagiarism and will be dealt with according to university policy regarding academic dishonesty . * all items on this syllabus are tentative and subject to change CALIFORNIA STATE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY AT POMONA DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERINGADVANCED ENGINEERING MEASUREMENTS LABORATORY ME 435L Winter 2002 (Sec 10, CRN 13685, Wednesday 3:00-5:50 PM, Rm. 17-1467 Sec 11, CRN 13688, Thursday 1:00-3:50 PM, Rm. 17-1467) Winter 2002 Measurements LabME435L10 W 3-5:50PMWeek 1 2345678910Finals WeekGroup # 2-Jan 9-Jan 16-Jan 23-Jan 30-Jan 6-Feb 13-Feb 20-Feb 27-Feb 6-Mar 13-Mar20-MarGroup 1 WS #1 Lab 1 Lab 2 Lab 3 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab 6 Lab 7 Lab 8 WS #2 SpeechLAB FINALGroup 2 WS #1 Lab 2 Lab 3 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab 6 Lab 7 Lab 8 Lab 1 WS #2 Speech1:40-3:40 PMGroup 3 WS #1 Lab 3 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab 6 Lab 7 Lab 8 Lab 1 Lab 2 WS #2 SpeechLAB FINALGroup 4 WS #1 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab 6 Lab 7 Lab 8 Lab 1 Lab 2 Lab 3 WS #2 Speech1:40-3:40 PMGroup 5 WS #1 Lab 5 Lab 6 Lab 7 Lab 8 Lab 1 Lab 2 Lab 3 Lab 4 WS #2 SpeechLAB FINALGroup 6 WS #1 Lab 6 Lab 7 Lab 8 Lab 1 Lab 2 Lab 3 Lab 4 Lab 5 WS #2 Speech1:40-3:40 PMGroup 7 WS #1 Lab 7 Lab 8 Lab 1 Lab 2 Lab 3 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab 6 WS #2 SpeechLAB FINALGroup 8 WS #1 Lab 8 Lab 1 Lab 2 Lab 3 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab 6 Lab 7 WS #2 Speech1:40-3:40 PMLab # Description TypeLab 1 Filters MINILab 2 Scope MINILab 3 BSTAMP MINILab 4 Flow Bench MINILab 5 LVDT LONGLab 6 Accelerometer LONGLab 7 Transient/DFT LONGLab 8 Fin Heat Loss LONGCALIFORNIA STATE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY AT POMONA DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERINGADVANCED ENGINEERING MEASUREMENTS LABORATORY ME 435L Winter 2002 (Sec 10, CRN 13685, Wednesday 3:00-5:50 PM, Rm. 17-1467 Sec 11, CRN 13688, Thursday 1:00-3:50 PM, Rm. 17-1467) Winter 2002 Measurements LabME435L11 R 1-3:50PMWeek12345678910Finals WeekGroup # 3-Jan 10-Jan 17-Jan 24-Jan 31-Jan 7-Feb 14-Feb 21-Feb 28-Feb 7-Mar14-Mar21-MarGroup 1 WS #1 Lab 1 Lab 2 Lab 3 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab 6 Lab 7 Lab 8 WS #2 Speech LAB FINALGroup 2 WS #1 Lab 2 Lab 3 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab 6 Lab 7 Lab 8 Lab 1 WS #2 Speech 11:30-1:30PMGroup 3 WS #1 Lab 3 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab 6 Lab 7 Lab 8 Lab 1 Lab 2 WS #2 Speech LAB FINALGroup 4 WS #1 Lab 4 Lab 5 Lab
